Sources of Horror FM Plots

So, who here has heard of Operation Insomnia and other horror story readers on YouTube? They read horror stories from places like Reddit's r/nosleep, where people congregate to tell horror stories. Some of these, if adapted right, could make decent fan missions. A source of ideas for unique monsters by those who are able to texture, model, and program is the Twitter page "slimyswampghost", who created the titular monster of the game Sirenhead.

Do you have a link to these stories? I definitely want to do a horror themed map at some point.

I have an eclectic YouTube channel making videos on a variety of games. Come and have look here:

The page "Operation Insomnia" on YouTube, and "slimyswampghost" on Twitter and Tumblr.

LOL Not to the youtube channel, but to the reddit horror stories.

Just speaking of these online story archives, I think it might be funny if someone created a medieval version of SCP stories, where there's some supernatural thing some institution like the Inventors are trying to contain and protect and your job is to infiltrate it and deal with the thing to get its secrets, and it has some horrific properties. Something like that.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

I'm thinking more in terms of GTA Stories using the Rockstar editor which lets you make fully cinematic

films. I've been looking for a good script for awhile.

Both of you, Demagogue and NeonsStyle, have good ideas. What about a fan mission based on "Slime" by Joseph Payne Brennan? It was featured in "Alfred Hitchcock's Monster Museum" horror anthology, but more important, Joseph Payne Brennan was born in BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut. May I remind you Bridgeport is the name of the city in The Dark Mod?

There are a few actual archaeological finds from my country's ancient or older history that revealed long-bygone events that sound like horror stories, but happened.

I can elaborate, if anyone is interested. Nothing supernatural involved, just "good old" man's inhumanity to his fellow man. Could be very dark, though, even for some of the dark subject matter tackled by some TDM missions.

One of the FMs I am planning actually involves snooping around an eccentric inventor's and patron of science's manor house, only for the thief character experiencing some unsuspected challenges. No supernatural horror at all, but maybe a few traps and misdirections, in the manner of a medieval-style take on Cube. "Ha, thief, you thought you could nab my secret invention that easily ? Think again !", that sort of thing.

I recently heard of a game called "Zweihander" that aims to capture the essence of early Warhammer Fantasy RPG. However, it has a few different settings with different lore and history. One that could be good for The Dark Mod was "The Lost Colony of Roanoke", a sort of "colonial grimdark" where the native elves are being pitted against colonists humans, halflings, gnomes, and dwarfs by the powers of the Croatoan, or Chaos. The idea of a horror mission set in the new world of Menoa where beastmen led by demons are trying to instigate a war between natives and colonists sounds cool, right?

You know, a SCP from the way past, with added low fantasy to it, is actually a very damn good idea.

And by SCP I mean the whole company itself, not just one SCP or a number and the like.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
