I have tried everything to get it running on Mac. Please help!

Hello everyone!

 

My name is Jarek and I'm super excited to be a part of this group. Thief is one of my favorite game series! When I found out about a standalone mod in the same vein as the first 3 I was stoked, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting it to run on my Mac.

 

I'm running on a Macbook Pro with OS Mojave. I've read through as many Mac-based forum posts as I can find and after trying to run it through PlayonMac, and ending up with the problems on this thread, http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/19683-mac-problems-launching-tdm/ (and figuring out that 2.07 doesn't run on the new Mac OS's), I downloaded the wineskin version from freyk's site and followed the instructions to install 2.05. However, I found myself at the same place as the individual in the same thread (see attached image). I even followed their instructions to get the wine working, but I still can't manage it. I was wondering if you guys have any 2019 strategies to get the game running.

Welcome to the community.

A start would by looking at the several installation methods at TDM wiki installation page (mac category).

 

An easy start is try to run 2.07 in a WINE environment.

(you can 2.05 mac os binary but very experimental and its an old version and not updated)

 

Havent tested 2.07 on wineskin.

But wineskin is a just wine container in a mac os app-format.

playonmac. is a nice front-end to manage wine containers and to expiriment with them.

 

I succesfully tested also 2.07 on the mac using playonmac (several wine versions) in the beta topic:

The console log looks like it does not see the pk4 files.

Maybe some pathing problem?...

havent tested that.

So how about adding a symlink from that darkmod folder in the application folder to your tdminstall folder?

 

ln -s /Users/SALATKA/tdminstall/ /Users/SALATKA/Library/Application Support/darkmod/

 

or setting the fs_basepath in darkmod.cfg.

I have tried the Binary, the Wine, and the PlayonMac versions. Each one successfully installs, but when I start the .app the programs runs for a second and shuts down. In the Wine version, the game would go to a black screen with no sound and then shut down.

 

Also I cannot find the darkmod.cfg file in any of the versions that I attempted to run.

 

 

I will try the PlayonMac version again.

have you installed the latest xquartz?

https://www.xquartz.org

and updated the wine of the container to a newer version?

you can set up a 32 bit and a 64 bit wine container in playonmac.

 

and opengl is deprecated in mojave.

so whe have to find another way.

I GOT IT WORKING!

 

I didn't realize that I needed to run the updater again after I downloaded the vcrun2013 file in the config. It seems to be working just fine!

a simple opengl test application. (like wglgears)

if this also not work, that you got the mojave opengl problem.

I'm pretty sure OpenGL is never going be removed from Mac, or at least not for a very long time. There are too many commercial and professional apps which depend on it which are just too large to be converted to use Metal instead. If Avid Media Composer suddenly stops working on Mac, Avid aren't going to rewrite it; their users will just switch to Windows instead.

 

(My company makes visual effects software that makes heavy use of OpenGL, so we are aware of this issue but not particularly worried about it. Apple aren't foolish enough to make their entire platform unusable for a huge industry).
