launching DR gets unhanded exception

Recommended Posts

I just ran into the problem discussed in this older thread: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18562-dr-unhandled-exception/

I checked darkradiant.log and it said:

2019-03-13 14:19:54 (13600) XMLRegistry: Importing XML file: C:/Users/user/AppData/Roaming/DarkRadiant/filters.xml
2019-03-13 14:19:54 (13600) Unhandled Exception: Unable to load file: C:/Users/user/AppData/Roaming/DarkRadiant/filters.xml
I looked at filter.xml and it was an empty document (well, a bunch of spaces). I deleted it and then DR started up fine.
So all is well. Attached is the bad 'filters.xml' file, if anyone is interested. Seems like a pretty minor bug.

Yeah last I recall, the general thing I was told was to delete the DR temp folder in AppData and restart. Not sure what causes it myself but I think it's been a persistent (if primarily annoying) bug that's been around for a while.

Modeler galore & co-authors literally everything

I just started having this problem this morning. I tried to follow the steps above but I must be doing something wrong. Couldn't find Appdata/Roaming under users, nothing close. I found some xml files just under the normal darkmod/DR folder. I made a copy of them in a separate folder on my desktop if greebo would like a look at them. But deleting them out of the DR folder didn't fix anything next time I restarted.

Doing some digging on my machine the only files anywhere that resemble appdata/roaming are under Windows/WinSxS or something crazy, in the screen you can see they don't seem to relate at all. I feel like not even close here.

I can reproduce the crash on Linux using the corrupted filters.xml in the original post, so I can investigate the problem on Linux (which will hopefully fix it on Windows too, although it's not so easy for me to test that side of things).

You cannot receive PMs. Could you please be so kind and check your mailbox if it is full (or maybe you switched off the function)?

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
