Is the Dark Mod running great on Windows 10?

Working fine for me aswell, but runs a bit faster in Windows 7 on my computer.

I'd think that probably has primarily to do with the difference in maufacturers drivers. I remember i had better performance for some tasks in Windows Vista than in Windows 7, even though people always bashed Windows Vista for its sluggishness.

Windows 8 and 10 are in general quite a bit more performant than Windows 7.

no, please dont start a OS benchmark here, based on a question from a beginner.

please create another topic or post in the excisting one.

cavador, your question is answered.

But how does your system met the TDM hardware requirements?

When your in doubt, just try it. its free in price.

tip:

in your case. to avoid several beginners problems,

use the unofficial installer, instead the updater:

freyk, i'm a bit puzzled over your reply. 1. Noone started a OS benchmark. 2. He wrote he will get a new computer, so, i don't get the question about meeting TDM hardware requirements with his current PC. 3. He also doesn't seem to be a beginner, but someone who already had TDM installed.

Only thing he asked is whether TDM will run well on Windows 10, and it does. Case closed really.

I'm actually having weird performance issues on my Windows 10 machine right now. Just upgraded to 2.07, and the Bakery Job is running at about 12 fps when I first load in. By contrast, I get about a solid 60 fps on my Windows 7 machine. This strikes me as especially odd, since my Windows 10 machine, despite being a laptop, is more powerful (16 gigs of RAM in both, with an Nvidia 1060 in the laptop vs a 970 in the desktop). Both setups are exactly the same, with exactly the same settings. Any ideas on what's causing this and how to fix it?

[Edit] Just found the issue I think, and it seems to be a case of Windows 10 stupidity. Seems like the OS by default was using the onboard CPU Intel drivers, rather than Nvidia. For anyone else with this problem, go into the Nvidia control panel > Manage 3D Settings > Preferred graphics processor, and switch to "High-performance NVIDIA processor." Now clocking well over 100 fps with uncapped on.

Windows 10 is to blame in many things but in this case is not its fault, that is a know "problem" with TDM engine, I think idtech 4 was made to run on a single GPU and made at a time where people were not using laptops with dual GPU's from totally different vendors, so it does not detect automatically the faster GPU in the system but it should do so in the 2.08 version, based on the road map.

In the meantime users with laptops using dual GPU's can chose manually like you discovered.

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
