Popular Post Bienie Posted October 30, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted October 30, 2019 (edited) Story: Quote You are down on your luck and take desperate measures, hitting the infamously haunted Langhorne Lodge at the edge of town. Will you survive to tell the tale? Build Time: Quote Roughly 100 hours over 3 months Thanks: Quote To my beta testers: krrg, Cambridge Spy, Shadow, joebarnin and acolyte6! Download the pk4 file from dropbox above, and place it in your folder called LhL inside your "fms" folder in your TDM install directory. Let me know if you run in to problems! Gallery: Hints, Tips, Walkthrough, Spoilers(!): Aren't you being a bit stingy with equipment in this mission!? I feel like I need more to work effectively... Gentle nudge: There are a few water arrows you can find, in places you might expect them; buckets, puddles, shelves etc. Just tell me!: There are only water arrows and healing potions to find in this mission: A water arrow in a bucket in the shed in the garden. A water arrow in a puddle in the maze garden. A water arrow in a bucket in the cabinet with the skeleton on the first floor, this room also has a health potion. A health potion in the kitchen shelf. A health potion on a shelf in the ritual room. I'm having trouble finding all of Olivia's body parts... Gentle nudge: Did you notice the note that she drops after the first time you meet her? Just tell me!: The right arm is on top of the burning logs in the den (NW room of ground floor). The left arm is in the torture chamber (NE room in the basement), on the north wall in a hanging metal shackle. The right leg is next to the sleeping skeleton on the bed in the bedroom (SW room of ground floor). The left leg is on the floor in the middle prison cell (westmost room in the basement). The spine is on the dining room table behind a torso with a butcher's knife in it (SW room of second floor). The skull is suspended in mid air in the ritual room in the attic (SW corner of attic). I'm missing a key so I can't get into room X... In order of how you should find them: The key to the den (NW corner of ground floor) is in the maid's quarters (NE corner of ground floor) on a side table by the bed. The key to the library (NW room of second floor) is in the den (NW corner of ground floor) on a table next to the sofa. The key to the basement is in side the toilet in the bathroom (SE of second floor), you need to first visit Olivia's room (NE corner of second floor) in order to access the bathroom. The key to the boiler room (SW part of basement) is hanging on a key rack in front of the torture room (N room of the basement) The key to the prison block (SW corner of basement) is on the floor by the above mentioned key rack. The key to the torture chamber (N room of the basement) is next to the gramophone in the bedroom (SW corner of ground floor). You have to turn the lights on in the boiler room to access the bedroom. I noticed that you have added secrets to this mission, but I'm having trouble finding all of them! Roughly in order of how you would find them: 1. A purse is under a floor board near the main entrance. You can "open" the floor board by frobbing a coat hangar. 2. In the NW corner of the den is a side table with a flower pot, in there is an emerald. 3. In the stairwell to the basement there is a floor cut out with a stone gargoyle on it. Next to the gargoyle is a ring. 4. In the boiler room is a work bench. On top of the top shelf of the workbench is a golden spyglass. 5. On top of the bed in the bedroom is a jewelled dagger. 6. When you first enter the attic storage room area there is a bookshelf on your immediate left. On top is a vase. Who is this Penny that Olivia is talking about in her diary? Gentle nudge: She's her companion, in the sense of how a child often anthropomorphizes their toys. She wants to bring her with her. Just tell me!: Penny is her doll, which you can find in a footlocker in the attic (to the right of where the crate almost falls on your head). In order to access the footlocker you have to steal the key off the ribs of Mother who should be walking around in her bedroom at this point. Once you have the doll drop it in Olivia's grave and you'll get a hidden objective ticked off! Disclaimers, Player Information. This mission contains undead/ghosts, jumpscares and macabre themes. There is no sexual content or mentions of drug use. Thank you for playing, and a Happy Halloween! What did you think of the mission? I look forward to your honest feedback! MrMunkeepants Posted October 31, 2019 Report Posted October 31, 2019 the room in the library was locked until a trigger event, and now the door is unfrobbable. Is there another way in, or is this a bug? I checked outside, upstairs, the window... (also, the rain seems to come through the overhang above the front door) Quote

It's open right? It's intentional that it doesn't close back since I wanted to set the opening time to a slow creepy pace. It wouldn't make sense that when the player closes it it's still moving as slow. 1 Quote My Fan Missions: Series: Standalone: Chronicles of Skulduggery 0: To Catch a Thief The Night of Reluctant Benefaction Chronicles of Skulduggery 1: Pearls and Swine Langhorne Lodge Chronicles of Skulduggery 2: A Precarious Position Chronicles of Skulduggery 3: Sacricide
Jedi_Wannabe Posted November 1, 2019 Report Posted November 1, 2019 Man that was a perfect mission for a stormy Halloween night. A couple moments gave me goosebumps; really liked your use of sound. Spoiler The gargoyle made me laugh when he moved to the top of the basement stairs. All the little things that changed throughout were very nice touches. My 7 year old was watching me play a little bit, but the first time he saw the glowing red eyes he was like "Nope, uh-uh. That's creepy!" and left the room, hahah. Job well done Bienie! 2 Quote As my father used to say, "A grenade a day, keeps the enemy at bay!" My one FM so far: Paying the Bills: 0 - Moving Day
peispud Posted November 1, 2019 Report Posted November 1, 2019 This one surprised me. I very much enjoyed it. Thank you 1 Quote

No, as in MMPs post, the door is closed and cannot be frobbed. That's the reason I cannot proceed (that is, I think so). Quote

Can you explain what happened from entering the second floor up to the point where door stopped being frobable? Did it open and then close or never open at all? I would suggest reloading or restarting the mission, but if this is a reproducible bug I may be able to do a quick fix.

Entering the pibrary, the door was locked; exploring a bit, I heard a noise and there was now an AI in the hallway by the stairs down and the door was closed and unfrobbable. Maybe it close the door behind it? I tried reloading, but there might have been a condition in the save; I will try restarting - or could just noclip through I suppose Quote

Jedi_Wannabe Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 What is the file name of those covered chairs up in the attic by the door, the ones with the white sheets draped over them? I can’t find them in DR, but haven’t opened up your map yet in DR to inspect them in your map. Quote As my father used to say, "A grenade a day, keeps the enemy at bay!" You're welcome! In what way was it surprising? Honesty, I loaded the mission and it looked very blocky in an old time DOS gaming kinda way, then story and building interior took over. It was a very fun and well put together mission. 1 Quote
id3839315 Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 This seems to be a real horror mission. As soon as I have collected 500 loot -> TAA-DAA Mission Complete! Quote
nbohr1more Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 Excellent small mission! For some reason, it reminds me a little of Mother Rose. The audio design and voice acting are top notch here. If I were entitled to wish fulfillment, I would love it if: Some scenes like torture or cannibalism were portrayed to the player via temporary overlays that flash horrific images when the player enters an area. I imagine that some lower-end players may balk at the outdoor performance a little. Just over 30 FPS for me (perfectly playable) but I'm not sure how integrated graphics or older CPU's will handle it. I'll try studying the scene when I get a chance, I suspect that the use of model based modules is hampering visportal \ light carve optimizations in that area. 2 Quote Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod: http://www.indiedb.com/mods/the-dark-mod (Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)
Melan Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 This was quite a nice Autumn surprise! Not terribly big or difficult, but well-realised, and with the plus of emotional investment. Definitely strong on mood. Many fine little details make the picture even better - I liked the subtle, unsettling little changes over the course of the mission. It was all just right. 1 Quote Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

I asked Bikerdude for permission to use them but I think they're basically free to grab for mappers at this point.

I would say that the mission is definitely inspired by Mother Rose but plays quite differently. The audio design was one of my priorities and I agree my GF did a good job on the voice acting. That's a cool idea with the flashing images, though probably more complicated than it is worth in the end. I thought maybe the relative sparseness of the outdoor area would mean it would run smoothly. I'm always locked at 60 fps as my rig is still quite overkill for TDM. I guess my testers were the same way since nobody mentioned performance issues. 2 hours ago, Melan said: This was quite a nice Autumn surprise!
