this was the quad amp set i had. dont be fooled by its looks it sounds really really good 😄. so good in fact that one of my coworkers bought it after hearing it drive a set of ghetto blaster speakers and making them sound closer to high end than what should be possible lulz.

the endstage amp delivers 45 watt and if you have two you can crosscouple them so they output ~100 watt as a monoblock.

and my turntable though a bit different than the one one the photo because as said mine had a handbrake 😂

Thanks all 🥲 yeah it will be/is hard but i knew it was only a question of time. Short as it was...

I feel strangely numb after the initial tears but so does my sister so i can only assume that it isnt uncommon after something like this. Worst part is i sometimes forget that she is gone and still try to call her on the phone.

Ill be allright i guess just takes time, but i appreciate the support newer the less 🥰.

It'll be ok, I also lost my father 5 years ago during Covid.

Try to focus distract and focus on good things. Sell, gift or throw away her old things.

I had to go through my dad's archives in the office and it hurt a lot but I'm better now that I don't re traumatize myself every day. My dad was kinda famous locally so it hurt that every time I talked to someone who knew him they would keep reminding me of him. I just wanted to move on and not to be associated with him that closely. The country I live in has an unhealthy relationship with death and we have among the highest demographic declines in the world in the Republic of Moldova.

Life goes on, they will be happy if we will be happy to continue and spread the good things they believed in. We must not obsessively ponder on the past but move on and do the best we can with what we inherit from them. Such is life. The new replaces the old.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."

- 2 July 1844 letter to James Russell Lowell from Edgar Allan Poe.

Life does take some strange turns indeed, hopefully nothing to bad ?.

Im getting old myself so it does make one think about the twists ones life had.

Well, this one isn't too bad

I need to improve my readiness and be more prepared.

There are things that are beyond my control, after all

Dusted off my old ps3 and just for the heck off it tried to see which games still would run on it. Quite a few it turned out 😂.

Mass effect 3 runs quite well on it as well as a good deal of the assasin series. Must be the longest running playstation model by now 🤣.

My ps2 still works 2 but can literally only run up to games from the age of quake 3 😄.

Theres even a port of horizon zero dawn in the works for the ps3 but tbh that might be streching it for that old bone. They will have to drop visuals to much that it will look acceptable on it.

Hm...both my PS2 and PS3 work without problems. I use them every few weeks or so...

Edit: There is a PS3 port of HZD? That's wild.

Mine do 2 😄, i was more amazed that they were still able to run quite so many games that came out years after the ps4 (well the ps3 could atleast). Mine only has 256 mb ram so its no powerhouse 😂

Posted

Well all the ps3 models have 256mb or rather it has 512mb but they are not shared so the 256mb is for the gfx card and the other half is used by the cell cpu.

Where they differ is in storage space. Mine has a 500gb harddrive. Its actually pretty amazing that sony could optimize games that normally needed atleast 1gb vram on pc and down to a quarter on the ps3. Shows how much optimization ment.

Sure at the time 4k tv's were more of a toy for the wealthy and most of us still played on 1080i and for tv's where most consoles wet there feet it was even lower at 720i so games did not need huge ammounts of vram to run. Also a good deal of compression going on.

The gfx chip on the ps3 was built in conjunction with nvidia and is still plenty powerfull.

Most of todays consoles use amd, not that its bad except for raytracing though with rdna 4 they gained some ground.

PS6 and Xbox Magnus will likely be the "true" raytracing consoles, although maybe the sky's the limit on the amount of performance desired.

Depends i guess on the avaliability of silicon with ai gobbling up any square inch atm. Its looking pretty dire.

Last i heard the ps6 would be delayed maybe a year or two because of this

Not sure if the hzd port for ps3 is ready yet but it was in the works last i checked.

Btw you can upgrade the ps3 harddrive with an ssd as long as you stick to 2.5 inch format.

Sadly the first versions only supported sata 1 and the slim versions only sata 2 so it would be a rather bad idea to stuff a highend drive in there. It also only supports 1.75 tb and since there are no 1.5 tb models a 1tb model is probably the best you can get.

Trim is also not supported by the ps3 os but luckily all modern ssd's have firmware support for it.

Lastly dont expect miracles due to the old sata chips used it wont come close to the speed you are used to from a pc but loading times will improve. Especially in gta 5. Sata 2 has a max throughput of around 300mb's pr second which is a bit more than half the speed of what an ssd can manage in a sata 3 port.

Upside is better loading times especially in more demanding titles. Immune to shock (unless you roll it over with your car 😂). And slightly better boot times.

Unfortunatly you cannot upgrade the memory as it is soldered in place.

You can also add external harddrives if you start lacking room for games. But due to the ps3 only having usb2 connectors it will suffer reduced speed just like the internal sata port.

It also runs ok with a mouse and keyboard though most ps3 games wont support that, so is only usefull for writing or browsing.

😄

Delay, sure. But most of the hardware decisions are probably locked in... with the exception of the big one. Memory. I'll lock in a prediction of 30 GB (160-bit 10x 3 GB GDDR7) for PS6. Maybe 48 GB for Xbox Magnus.

Now I have more mobility, something I didn't anticipate was replacing my PC with a laptop. But it seems like this is just a plan.

Laptops with an RTX 5060 GPU (high TGP) are really out of my price range ($200-250 price increase). Those with an RTX 5050 have also gone up by $130-$160.

I'm looking for a dual heatpipe configuration (definitely dual fans)

That feeling when you ask a seller on an e-commerce platform and they tell you they've raised the price by $150-$200 from the original price via chat. All the product price tags feel misleading. The prices are intentionally not updated. I do hate bait and switch pricing

By the way, I haven't heard of the brands Sager or Clevo in a long time. I wonder where they are now.

plenty of companies are looking into a troublesome set of years...

the new manufacturing sites for silicon are first set to go into production in 27 and they are probably first going to churn out chips in 28 🙄 meanwhile other makers are going to have to settle for the scraps. i would not be surprised at all if ram would hit the same prices we had when personal computing started in earnest (as an example my first microsoft based pc was a pentium 286, in 1987 it cost around 6 times what an rtx 5090 card costs today). i bought mine used from the company i worked in for 60000 kr which is close to 6000 dollars 😂 it was 2 years old at that time...

they are allready saying that no matter what prices will newer again hit what we where used to, not even when things stabilize.

EDIT: was a bit sleepy, 60000kr is 9323 dollars yeah i made pretty penny back then 😂.

Example of ram prices through time. Warning not for the faint of heart 😂 https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/historical-cost-of-computer-memory-and-storage

At one point a terabyte was valued in the hundreds of trillions (that is dollars).

EDIT: back in 1989 1mb edo ram went for about 100 dollars and quite a bit more here in denmark due to tarifs 25% and the resellers here took about 35% themself also.

The graph is indicating memory cost $1.09/GB in 2023. That must be some kind of wholesale/spot pricing, because consumers would be hard pressed to get DDR4/DDR5 that cheap at that time, outside of open box and used market.

Finally my monitor has developed dead pixels and a black line issue.

I didn’t expect 27–34-inch monitors to be this affordable now. Only OLED prices haven’t dropped yet (I got OLED screens on my phone and TV before getting a monitor).

But with my current GPU, I’ll probably stick with a 24-inch monitor. ik for 27 you need 1440p and 2k , 1080p is far from ideal

Personally, I don’t expect microLED monitors to hit the market in the 2020s, maybe in early 2030s. That’s still far away

Dell and HP monitor never do disservice. The one that recently broke has been in use for over 8 years

*edit : I scored a great deal and a great discount on an LG Ultragear curved monitor.  it’ll take a while for my eyes to adapt to the curved screen, especially for gaming.
