Dragofer Posted January 12, 2020 Report Posted January 12, 2020 Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts. boissiere Posted January 12, 2020 Report Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) I only joined up a couple of months ago (and this is actually my first post) and I *do* have the option of uploading a profile photo although the profile page looks slightly different to yours. The upload button is on the silhouette. Edited January 12, 2020 by boissiere Quote
Dragofer Posted January 12, 2020 Author Report Posted January 12, 2020 Thanks for sharing boissiere. Should've clarified that the button's missing on both mobile and desktop versions of the forums. My equivalent of your screenshot is: Tried clicking on the spot where the button *should* be but it just brings up a closeup of my current image. Springheel Posted January 12, 2020 Report Posted January 12, 2020 Is anyone else having this problem? I don't see anything obvious that would explain it. STRUNK Posted January 12, 2020 Report Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) @Springheel Not me. I see the edit button. @Dragofer Did you try manually adding /photo/ to the addres of your profile page? When I click edit it goes to this address: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/profile/38387-strunk/photo/ Edited January 12, 2020 by STRUNK Quote
Dragofer Posted January 12, 2020 Author Report Posted January 12, 2020 That's a great idea STRUNK: simply go to my profile and type photo at the end of the website URL. But it doesn't work unfortunately. On Reverend's URL I'm presented multiple options to specify an image, but on Dragofer it's just an empty box with 'Continue' at the bottom. When I click on 'Continue' it lets me re-crop my existing profile picture. STRUNK Posted January 12, 2020 Report Posted January 12, 2020 @Dragofer and if you try /photo/# and/or drag a picture to that page? Quote
Dragofer Posted January 12, 2020 Author Report Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) Thanks for yet more good suggestions, but the result stays the same... /photo/# brings me to the same page as /photo, and dragging a picture onto that page simply turns my browser into a picture viewer. STRUNK Posted January 12, 2020 Report Posted January 12, 2020 @Dragofer Only 1 thing I can think of is copy the page source of your profile page and profile page /photo/, paste it in textfiles and share it with @Springheel so he, or some other admin/developer can take a look at it and see if there is something missing/wrong in the code. I use firefox and my page source for ... /photo/ is 1574 lines long when I View Page Source. 1 Quote

Maybe it's something with older users' migration to newer version of the forums? At least that's the first thing I'd look for. Edit: btw. I can't change profile picture either. Dragofer Posted January 13, 2020 Author Report Posted January 13, 2020 @peter_spy I'd think so too. I've sent a message to Invision support briefly describing what I and others are (not) seeing and put it in relation to the 2019 forum upgrade and our account creation dates. I think it was a better idea to make @taaaki know this, maybe this is some misconfiguration on his part. Without his assistance, communication with support would be problematic anyway. Quote
Springheel Posted January 13, 2020 Report Posted January 13, 2020 It doesn't seem to correlate to date joined. Greebo and Stifu both have the icon, and they were 2006 and 2009 respectively. Meanwhile, stgatilov, also from 2009, doesn't have it. demagogue Posted January 14, 2020 Report Posted January 14, 2020 I don't have the icon. My avatar image is poorly scaled in the new system, so I was trying to change it a few weeks ago, basically right after the migration IIRC, and found no way to do it. I registered in 2005, so I don't think it's registration date either. Quote What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.
Destined Posted January 14, 2020 Report Posted January 14, 2020 I joined in 2015 and am also not able to change my picture, so I also think that the date joined is not relevant. Quote
Dragofer Posted January 15, 2020 Author Report Posted January 15, 2020 My theory was not so much an actual correlation between date & likelihood for the icon to be missing, but that it'd be only accounts created before June 2019 that'd be affected, so basically just an issue with account migration. No users that registered more recently have reported this issue so far, but we only had 1 such member post in here until now. And yeah stgatilov, I haven't even received a confirmation from Invision support that they received my message, so this looks like it would be something for the likes of taaaki to take up with them, if he needs to do so. STRUNK Posted January 15, 2020 Report Posted January 15, 2020 I joined december 2018 but added a profile picture just some weeks ago, so after june 2019. Quote
taaaki Posted January 26, 2020 Report Posted January 26, 2020 I think I figured it out. The people having issues with profile picture uploads had secondary groups associated with their accounts. Some of these secondary groups had the "Do not allow profile photo uploads" setting checked (why, I'm not sure), and this is likely overriding the primary group that does permit profile photos. I've updated all the relevant groups to allow profile photo uploads. Could the affected users ( like @Dragofer, @demagogue, @Destinedand @stgatilov) please see if you are now able to change your profile picture. Quote I am the bat. The night is mine.

Dragofer Posted January 27, 2020 Author Report Posted January 27, 2020 That worked! Thanks for sorting this out, now I can try things out again (including my original one, that I found again).
