Removed Missions List?

Hello folks! I am kinda new to The Dark Mod!

While watching youtube videos about the Dark Mod, i came across missions that have become diferent to their now avaiable due to updates, which is expected and all due to the nature of fan missions.

But i also came across missions, such as Goldwell's "A Noble's House (The Accountant Prologue)" which are radically diferent from the actual first The Accountant mission that i started to wonder if there are other such cases. Missions that have been removed from the in-game downloader (why?) and arent avaiable anymore.

For Goldwell's mission, i found a link to it in Gamepressure, so its still avaiable to download, but are there other such cases?

Thanks in advance for any help!

As I recall, "A Noble Home" does not work in versions newer than 2.03 (broken intro sequence).

Goldwell was not happy with the original design so he created the new redesigned version rather than repairing

the mission.

I decided to remake the accountant 1. Which is why the old version is drastically different to the new version. The core concept remains the same though (visiting a fence in the sewer and breaking into a noble home to steal a necklace for him).

I had explained this in the author notes of the release thread for the accountant 1 but I’ll paste it in here too:

This FM is brand new and serves as the first installment in The Accountant series, a few years back there was a small prologue style mission released however I felt that it did not represent The Accountant series so I decided to go back to the drawing board and do a whole new mission that's larger, has a better level design and has a story that lines up closer to what I plan to do with the accountant series.”

While i understand that completely, i think your underestimating how cool A Noble's Home still is, maybe release it as a standalone mission unrelated to The Accountant series?

It has one minor hickup where the Fence might block you way at the start of the mission, but if you go ahead of him, you can do the mission just fine (i am playing it as a type it, so maybe the end sequence might be broken?)

No, the Fence intro is the main issue. If Goldwell agrees, I could upload it to the official Moddb page so curious players

can try it (with a warning about the issues in 2.04 and newer). I should probably try to DMAP it in 2.08 beta since there

are numerous DMAP fixes there and it may repair the intro.

Winter Harvest kinda screwed up my Dark Mod install btw, gave me a AAS96 error at the start and that somehow not only killed my missions.tdminfo, but made me stuck in a neverending "mission update" loop.

Quite weird.

Otherwise, it seems like the mission runs "fine" on current engine.

I have no interest in uploading outdated versions of my missions anywhere.

If anyone added in a new skin and a new AI/Movement for it, could we be legally allowed to get the Spider Queen back since it wouldn't be using Doom 3 Vagary code anymore?

A modeler and animator would need to create a whole new non-infringing Spider Queen asset from scratch.

No easy feat. To my knowledge, Springheel is no longer inclined to work on this sort of project.

Someone could simply create a TDM 1.07 mission and instruct players to use that along with installing Doom 3.

At one point, I was interested in back-porting some TDM fixes to 1.07 and releasing a TDM 1.07 Gold Non-Standalone release

so players could play some of the old pre-standalone missions with fewer bugs and a little better performance but I couldn't get the

project to compile on MSVC 2013 even with 2008 libraries installed (etc). Maybe I'll get back to that some day...

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
