A strange thought: Thief in Minecraft

Recently a thought came to my mind, for which I wanted to ask the people here nicely of their experience with Minecraft. For me, I never bought or played the game, but the videos and media that you can see on the internet about what people created is really appealing. I was wondering if there's a way to create medieval buildings and castles to play as a thief against hostile NPCs. This seems like an alternative to build little adventures withoud Dromed or Dark Radiant. But as I said, I don't know much about Minecraft itself.

I did a few googles and saw, there was a "sneaking mode" mod and also a bunch of medieval texture mods, some even with story modes.

Are there any Minecraft players here? Can you tell if there's a way for a thief / tdm experience both in play and level creation? Please feel free to share your experience! :)

With some modding, thief-like gameplay should be possible in Minecraft. Grafics-wise it would still be on a lower level than the original "Thief: The Dark Project". And the sound system and lightgem would need some love too. But it should be doable.

Thank you, but just to make sure: For me it's not only about if one could mod Minecraft for a Thief experience - I also want you guys to share IF you had already an experience like this with some kind of mod or if you tried to build your own medieval city there.

For me the core game is not so much appealing, but the idea to make thief maps in this game in the way you are able to create buildings sounds really interesting. :)

I wish there was a complete Thief mashup pack. Not just textures from Thief 1 and 2 for blocks, but Reskins for mobs as well. Hammerite Priest Villager Priests, Pagan Illagers, Thief zombie skin zombies, etc

Ah well Springheel thank you. I kind of remembered reading something like that somewhere, but I didn't think of our forums here! Thank you for pointing me there!

Oh there aren't? Shouldn't be hard to do since the models look really blant. If I get the game, that could be a job for me maybe :)

I remember a Thief 1 and 2 based texture pack with Garrett skin a while ago. But that was years back, and I can't find it. It utilized actual graphics from Thief 1 and 2 in order to make skeletons into Haunts, Zombies into Thief's zombies, and Creepers I believe may have been Karras' robots. There was also another Thief 2014 Texture pack with a high-rez Garrett skin, but i haven't been able to find the video again after years.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
