Destined 620
Hi all, I am not sure how many metalheads are on this board, but I am one of the people who is missing a couple of festivals due to SARS-CoV-2. One of the biggest events, that cannot happen this year for me is Wacken, but the organisers are trying to make the best of it, by having an online-festival including even some live shows (in studio without audience, of course, but still nice). Anyone else watching this? And what are your thoughts about it? I think, it cannot compare to the real thing, but it is a nice gesture, so I let it run in the background, while doing other stuff.
freyk 475
I did that too at EDM-festivals, Tomorrowland and Defqon 1. Defqon 1 are just video streams from DJ's houses (like miss k8). But what the people did with tomorrowland is, to me, very inspirational for our mappers. With nice virtual locations, many interactive audience models, lighting, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R56hUOqodE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-q5-FDFRtY Ok, its not the real thing, but better safe than sorry. I wish we had your musicfestival drive-ins, in my country. Better then nothing. Correction: I discovered that there are some festivals held in my country in this period. People are creative: you as the audience dancing next to an standing table. Or dance & sitting on a huge rubber ducky (...) esme 149
Try having a look at www.planetrock.com, they organised a virtual gig "Rocks The Asylum" at the weekend with Those Damn Crows, Stone Broken and Massive Wagons, may be doing more in future Not the same as actually being there but it keeps things going until we can, support staff don't die on their ass for lack of being paid for a start If you listen to the radio bit I should warn you it's a bit ad heavy Edited July 31, 2020 by esme
STiFU 753
"Wacken? Ist schon vorbei du Spasti, hau' ab!" (Just a little German insider regarding Wacken) Lots of stuff is going digital this year. The Gamescom actually created an mmo so that you can visit the gamescom digitally at least. It'll be free2play, so I am definitely gonna check that out. It will be my first Gamescom. Also digital this year, QuakeCon happening next weekend. However, they should really go ahead and rename it to "BethesdaCon" if you look at this timetable. What's elderscrolls, Fallout and Dishonored got to do on a QuakeCon? It's supposed to be Doom and Quake, and that's it!

woah 71
If you've got a VR headset and like electronic music, check out The Wave and, at times, VRChat. Various art exhibitions are being held in VR this year, e.g. through The Museum Of Other Realities https://store.steampowered.com/app/613900/Museum_of_Other_Realities/ https://twitter.com/museumor For future sporting events and such, Google has figured out how to stream lightfield videos over a 300Mbps connection. Essentially lightfield video gives you a volume (e.g. 70cm^3) in which you can move around your head and the image is rendered correctly from every position and orientation (e.g. even mirrors work). Once headsets have variable focus I could see there being a huge market for this https://uploadvr.com/google-lightfield-camera-compression/ Of course nothing is quite like actually being present but this is really the next best thing and, for some people, it's probably good enough. STiFU 753
Hospitality is a pretty well known Drum & Bass festival and this year it was actually held in minecraft.
Zerg Rush 58
I'm a old Metalhead since the 69, but unfortunately Wacken is a bit far for me and I always had to limit myself to local concerts and festivals, or, well, because of COVID what is on YT. The positive is that you can discover new bands that even take Metal to a new level. Of the current bands, my favorites are Vintersea, Be'lakor and Harakiri for the Sky, !!the latter with brutal videos, but painfully true.
SeriousToni 481
Harakiri for the Sky is pretty awesome really. I listen to it while I'm working at home since the last months. Belakor was my companion for almost 5 years oor even more. Good taste of music there Zerg Rush!
