I had many great moments with Mooncrash, because of "near miss" and "last second save" type of moments, typically amid total chaos of the last stretches between me and the escape pod.

Me to, absolutely loved it because of that.

By the way, if you need more of that, the survival game "Green Hell" is king in delivering that feeling. The game saves your progress only when sleeping, so every day, some progress is on the line, which creates the needed tension. From my Steam-Review:

Quote

This game pretty much has two phases, with its true wonder unfolding in the second phase. At the beginning, you'll spend most of the time building a base and learning the mechanics. You'll die a lot, but you can reload saved games, so no need to worry about losing a ton of progress. When you've got the mechanics nailed down, the second phase starts: You don't actually need the safety net of your base anymore, so you'll start exploring and actually follow your objectives to advance the story (yes, this game actually has a half decent story). It is at that point in time, that the most incredible stories unfold just via the systems of the game as you frequently only just survive the most severe of situations with the help of your acquired jungle-survival-knowledge. Moments like that compare to that "Beating a boss in Dark Souls"-feeling!

Hmm been a while since i played it but the part that got me most was when i had to spacewalk outside the station and got lost in the debris xD. i got pretty good at using there own powers against them but some sections can be a real nutcracker to get around in (much like system shock). I really liked the old game as well to bad the sequell got scrapped.

I had disabled GUI target markers when I started game, and then forgot about it.

Outside space is the only area which has no detailed map, only a basic scheme of station modules.
As the result, navigating without GUI markers becomes very hard there. I spend so much time searching for an entrance every time!

There is also an optional quest to find some guy.
His tracking bracelet points to the outside area, but unlike interior areas, the its map does not show where exactly he is. I'm pretty sure he is impossible to find without GUI marker.

just recently got baldurs gate 3 and wow 😀 nice game, i was actually starting to loose interrest in gaming but thought what the heck so i tried it out and i like it :) there are a few downsides to it but i guess when you have an illithid passenger in your brain and your girlfriend in game has an infernal engine as a heart there ought to be downsides 🤣.

well i guess the residents of avernus will be cursing our names for years to come 👹 especially zariel hehe.

some like this kindof play type, this is more like the old D&D board games in playstyle (turn based) which i was not normally fond of myself but after getting used to it i dont find it all that distracting (gives you some time to ponder your next move). gfx are gorgeus :) and the characters in your party are quite fun (like waking up with a wamp about to bite your jugular then getting all kinds of flustered because you caught him in the act) 🤣. some can seem like real aholes like lae'zael untill you get to know her, others are secretive like shadowheart and can actually become quite dark if you dont play your cards right.

I have Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 in my Steam library, but, never really gotten into them, because of that party stuff. Might give it another go one day. My taste and preferences change a bit from time to time. ;)

I'm a huge fan of those games, but I'm putting off getting BG3 because I'm a bit too worried they'll be too much like the Divinity games (from Larian).  Those were good, but a bit too cartoony for me and I never came close to finishing them.  I just didn't feel compelled to invest the time into them.

If you don't want to manage a party in Baldurs Gate games, just go solo.  Your one character gets all the XP instead of it being spread out among the party members 😉.  If you feel you are missing out on companion quests, you can just take them in your party while you do their quest and then ditch them.

hmm newer winter nights that is quite a while since i last played any in that series, liked it ok though i allways been more of a diablo fan myself all the way from diablo 1 to diablo 4 mixed in with some wild years in world of warcraft as a member of one of the largest guilds. also played darkstone dragonage divine divinity and a slew of other rpg's. newer been much into the turn based variants before now :) though i did at some time play bg2 which ended horribly for me 🤣 also tried dungeons and dragons but i could newer quite get used to it. i was an avid shooter player in my youth counterstrike, quake 1 2 3, medal of honor etc. earliest pc games i played where duke nukem, redneck rampage, carmageddon, omikron the nomad soul, outcast, quake 1, half-life, system shock 1 and 2 thief and a few titles i cant remember anymore ;). before the PC i played stuff like sid meyers civilization on my commodore 64 plus a variety of the titles avaliable for it at the time. mass effect was one of my favorites in the more recent years the andromeda offshot while having a nice combat system newer really got me though.

had a hell of time finding it again but the mod i was thinking about is here https://www.moddb.com/mods/reign-of-shadow

Thanks. I might boot it up sometime to see if it's still worth it. I find the Diablo 2 interface too outdated and I think the official Diablo II: Resurrected doesn't fix that.

It seems some Diablo 2 mods implement DGengine:

I remember a glide wrapper also improved the graphics, but is probably not needed anymore with DGengine.

aye there are a few mods using DGengine might be worth a look :), the glide wrapper is not needed with DGengine it uses opengl ;) also supports native resolutions like D2R but a whole lot more moddable when it comes to interface elements (could roll your own hud and menus if wanted it uses json format).

How you get from Prey, an immserive sci-fi game, to BG3, a D&D fantasy cRPG, is beyond me, but it sure seems to be a good game. 😄

I make it a habit to derail topics (where most has been said already) in off-topic section, while I think it's bad to do that elsewhere.

Taking a break to alleviate burnout. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have jumped into a map-making contest so quickly after just finishing another project and especially with my busy schedule, but I do believe I have something that the community will enjoy. No clue if I'll be able to finish it on time for the competition if I factor in a break, but I'd rather take my time and deliver something of quality rather than engage in development crunch or lose part of the map's soul to burnout.

      Happy birthday to me!
Yes, today's my birthday and as much as I want to play The Dark Mod, I won't until it's late Autumn, where it should be a bit chilly in my place and there's some wind too.
For now, it's time to enjoy my birthday, if any of you want to play a great fan mission in my honour...Well that's asking too much, just play the mission because it's fun, not because of me, enjoy it yourself! 💪
