BUG: Searching by Map->Find Brush->Entity # produces 0 results.

Recommended Posts

Using Map->Find Brush->Entity # produces 0 results.

If I check my map file, it shows

// entity 100
{
"classname" "atdm:torch_metal_wall"
"name" "atdm_torch_metal_wall_7"
"origin" "-641.601 1104.32 99"
"rotation" "0.503569 0.863956 0 -0.863956 0.503569 0 0 0 1"
}

If I do a search for entity 100 with that dialog box, I get no results, nothing shows in console either.

It works for brushes just fine though, if I type in 200 in the box and hit OK, it selects that brush

// primitive 200
{
brushDef3
{

Hmmm, that doesn't work either.

I created a new patch, it's showing up as Entity 320 in the map file

// primitive 320
{
patchDef2
{
"textures/common/shadow2"
( 3 3 0 0 0 )
(
( ( -1362 318 424 0 0 ) ( -1362 432 424 0 -0.8828125 ) ( -1362 544 424 0 -1.765625 ) )
( ( -1252 318 424 0.859375 0 ) ( -1252 432 424 0.859375 -0.8828125 ) ( -1252 544 424 0.859375 -1.765625 ) )
( ( -1142 318 424 1.71875 0 ) ( -1142 432 424 1.71875 -0.8828125 ) ( -1142 544 424 1.71875 -1.765625 ) )
)
}
}

But when I use Map->Find Brush->Entity Number and put in 320, I get no results. BUT, if I put 320 in Brush Number, I get that patch selected. So it seems brushes and patches are lumped into Brushes.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

That dialog and its functionality is ancient. It must have been introduced when there haven't been any patches available at all - Brush Number really refers to "Primitive Number".

Entity 0 is the worldspawn, as you found out. Putting Entity 0 and a primitive number will look up the worldspawn brush/patch for you. I guess the dialog should be made to work with non-func_static models too, since the entity number 100 is a valid one and it should be found even if has no child primitives attached to it.

Not sure about the workflow though, what's the reason you're looking up the entity by number instead of its name? I guess the Entity List would do a better job at locating entities in most cases.

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
