Ability to select all entities with the same model

Recommended Posts

I'd be very happy if DarkRadiant offered the menu option "Select all with model" in the Edit menu, under the exiting "Select all of type" entry. I found there are cases when I need to modify every func_static (or other entity type) with a certain model, yet after a point you have too many instances of that model (some grouped) to manually select all.

I often need this to replace a given model with a similar one, or more importantly reconfigure the LOD settings for all instances of that model on the map (eg: set the hide_distance spawnarg). I need to do this right now in the FM I'm working on, but have so many copies of every model I simply couldn't select each one manually, thus if this isn't implemented I'll have to leave them as is and abort those changes. This seems like an easy one to implement so I hope it's doable and we can see it soon. Thank you.

I need to do this right now

An immediate band-aid would be to create a filter that looks for that model and use the right-click menu to "Select by filter". I have a "search" filter that I edit whenever I need to look for a specific thing.

Maybe a search mask would be the most flexible solution. Get prompted with a dialogue for "spawnarg" and "value" and it selects all entities that match this.

Aha, good thinking! Definitely a workaround but one I could attempt using in the meantime. Thanks for suggesting, might take a look at this later.

Another alternative (or addition) to my suggestion would be an in-world (3D viewport and 2D views) filter, where you can hide entities in realtime by typing in a spawnarg and optionally a value it must have: As you type, entities not matching that arg / value will disappear from DR as if hidden, until you clear the text to show them again.

Have you tried Scripts > "Select all Models of same type"? It should select all entities with the same model spawnarg.

Sweet: That's precisely the feature I was looking for! So it's already implemented but as a script... didn't think of looking under scripts and seeing that. Thanks :)

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
