My CPU has 5 cores and in v1 FPS in the cave, only there, was less than 10 FPS. Was pretty hard to play through picture after picture. Maybe it was more an AMD problem than the number of cores. Anyway the problem is solved.

Alright, try renaming both copies of the file from z_nofog.prt to a_nofog.prt.

yes! yes! You're a good wizard! Put a "particles" folder with your file in the TDM folder and the fog disappeared!
