I tried it, the splash screen greyed out and seized up.

i5, GTX660, Win7

I clicked End Process, the splash screen still frozen.
Task Manager - End Process, End Process Tree.  There are 2 DarkRadiant.exe.
Splash screen still frozen, even as I type this.

I don't know what else I could say.  First time that ever happened.

edit: I had to reboot.  Now it seems to work fine.  I tried to reproduce it but couldn't.  Somehow the game setup window got stuck under the splash screen or something.

You can't even end the process? That doesn't sound like DR is at fault, ending a process is a windows thing.

Next time it stalls, I'd be interested in a memory dump, to see where it hangs.

I deleted the 3.6 settings folder and tried again.
The first run from the portable archive freezes on the splash screen.
Initialising Module: GameManager
I PM'd you the .DMP file, there is no DarkRadiant.log ever created.

I am willing to accept it's Windows 7 or my custom themes or whatever.
Hopefully nobody else is having problems with this and I'll be happy.
At the end of the day, it ends up working and I am relieved about that!

It's trying to create the folder "F:/.../maps/", that's the point where DR was by the time you created the dump. Could there be anything that might block the application from creating that folder?

It's a portable drive that wasn't plugged in, and that folder already exists and doesn't need creating.

I think this is too much of a rare case to worry about.  It just shocked me.  I feel embarrassed but now all is well.

I updated the flatpak earlier today and the new version is now available on Flathub.

Unforunately the crash when opening certain dialogs is still present for me, but hopefully I'll have more time to look into that this week.

Hello Greebo.

I have worked with the new 3.6 for a couple hours.  I was able to work just about the same as before the changes on 3.5.

Usability:  the windows risk docking quite aggressively even if not intended.  I am liking that the properties parent window holds all of these child windows in one place rather than in separate windows.  Perhaps make docking the parent Properties window optional?  I like moving this window around and even moving partially off the screen if I don't close it.  If I move it too far in any direction, it gets sucked into a dock.

Potential bug:  The surface inspector (S key) pops open the entity window at the same time.  This happens unless the SI is docked in the parent property window.  I tried some other undocked windows and only the SI and entity window did this as far as I could tell.

Actual bug:  the sizing of the objects within the Entity window (N key) resets when closed and needs to be dragged back out every time it is opened.  This is the area shown in the attached screenshot.

Hope that helps for "version.Next."

Thanks!

Clint

Not much I can change about the docking "magnetism", but as a workaround you can hold down Ctrl or Alt to prevent docking of moved windows.

That should go to the bugtracker please, then I'll look into it for the next release.

I created a bug tracker ticket for this issue: https://bugs.thedarkmod.com/view.php?id=6165

I made a build with debug symbols on my desktop, and oddly enough darkradiant exits entirely rather than crashing with a SIGTRAP when I try to debug it.  I'll keep investigating...

In the create model window, the scroll wheel does not scroll through the list. This works correctly in the create entity window, create particle window and insert prefab window.

Reproduce: right-click in 2D view and select create model and use mouse scroll wheel to scroll through list. Instead in the background the camera view zooms out.

This issue still remains in 3.6 (under Linux) . If I remember correctly this doesn't happen in Windows (10). Should I create a bugreport in the tracker?

Since it only affects the Model Selector window, I might have fixed that a few commits back. The Model Selector didn't have a parent window set (since it is initialised very early during startup), that's why it had also been possible to focus on the main window even with the Model Selector open.

The preliminary working titles for the missions in my now-in-development Partners in Crime series:
      - Partners in Crime 1: A Mere Trinket
      - Partners in Crime 2: Beacon Burglary
      - Partners in Crime 3: In the Bleak Midwinter
      - Partners in Crime 4 (5 ?): Fishy Dealings
      - Partners in Crime 5 (4 ?): A Thief in the Night

No title stealing, please.  In return, I promise to finish these. I do stress the preliminary part. Beyond the broad strokes storyline, plot, objectives, briefings and the (currently built) layouts of these FMs, I haven't fully decided about every single detail yet, including the exact order of the missions (4 and 5 might switch places, with the story adjusted accordingly). I want the overall plot to be plotted out a bit in advance and not suffer too much from inserting prequels later. I also prefer to let my FM building fill out part of the details naturally.

Currently working on the second FM, and once I do enough work on the current prototype, I'll work on the first one, until I get that one released. Then complete the second one, get that one ready for release (hopefully) a few months later, and so on. I want most of the early missions to be fairly small and confined, and get a bit bigger as I grow more confident in my FM making skills.

Though there is an overarching storyline to this series, the missions themselves are mostly episodic in nature. They factor into the character development of the two main characters I'll have in the series, but it's the kind of continuity where the mission's own plot and story wouldn't depend on it.

I've updated all of the Fan Mission documentation on our TDM wiki. As I've gone to the trouble of documenting every officially known fan mission, we currently have a total of 192 missions (the vast majority of them Single Missions, and a few done in the format of a Campaign). Maybe I should get working on my own again, soon, just to add something to the approaching first two hundred.
