2.11 dev of course.

Will re-download 2.08 soon (got an SSD catastrophic failure :D -> new SSD -> I'm reinstalling all the software)

2.11 beta 01 is currently in the installer list. The thread about it will be out soon but you can test it now.

That said, we need to bisect your performance problem by having you test older builds starting with 2.08

Tested the release build of 2.10. No problem at all!

So it's something in the 2.11 (dev/bet)

Psst! In the latest dev build try setting:

r_useDebugGroups 0

This was set to 1 in dev16617-10107

Beat me to it, was just coming here to say this.
Keep in mind it will be back to 1 after restart as it's default in the code is enabled.
The next beta update will probably have it disabled again. Stupid AMD

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Thanks!

Please try Dev Build dev16599-10071

Problem is already there.

r_usedebuggroups makes no difference in the last dev build.

10036 -> working

10071 -> FPS ISSUE

nailed.

A few big changes occurred there. It looks like we didn't commit any binaries to SVN between these releases. Are you able to compile from source?

If so, can you try compiling 10037 ( big shadow change )?

Could you please run the game with:

  • r_ignoreGlErrors 0
  • r_glDebugContext 1
  • r_glDebugOutput 2

Then get to the place which is slow and take a condump?
Are you sure you get no GLSL warnings/errors and no OpenGL error spam?

Does the issue go away when you:

  • Turn off SSAO?
  • Both on stencil shadow and shadow maps?
  • Turn off shadows (execute: r_shadows 0; reloadmodels) ?

Other than that, we can bisect further by revisions... although that would take time if you cannot build the game yourself.

Of course I can build the exe.

SSAO and Stencil/ShadowMaps already tested, not the culprit.

Will try disabling the shadows at all.

Shadows!

r_shadows 0 (and no need to relead models) ->

stlucia-2022-12-07-08-59-57-1916-83-4282

77 FPS instead of 18

So no need to build anything?

I'm not so sure 😥

I would try svn rev 10040, and if it is slow with shadows, then revs 10039-10037 too.
Otherwise, try svn revs 10070-10066.
I don't think anything else relates to the problem.

By the way, did you try "r_useNewBackend 0" (out of curiosity) ?

And condump with GL errors enabled is still welcome.

SSAO is in a postprocessing stage, right? Because that's the release where it got fixed on AMD.

From the console the only error (red hint) I see is GL_ARB_Compatibility not found

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
