Jane Dark Project here to show these silly boys how it's done.

I wonder how this will work out with Witcher 4 where again you will not play as the guy after which the series is named.

The whole story of The Witcher has always been all about Ciri and anyone who does not see that is not a true Witcher fan. Even people who just played the games should know that the story of Geralt ended in the Blood and Whine DLC. Also, Ciri is actually considered a witcher, so the series naming still fits.

That being said, I do hope they do something interesting with the combat system. Playing as Ciri in W3 was always soo boring.

No no let them keep telling on themselves. This thread has been very informative.

I never played a Witcher game, but the current trend is so obvious. And then the US elected the worst old white male of them all ;)!

I had no idea The Witcher referenced American politics to such an extent that it makes sense for them to appear in the same conversation. Is Gerald of Nivea a member of the GOP or can we just talk about this Thief game without some relic introducing identity politics to the discussion?

If what's seen in the trailer is regular gameplay then it looks to be quite fun. If it's a series of escape room puzzles then it'll be a very immersive movie. Either way new Thief content is something to be celebrated, especially releasing on a few platforms.

Yeah, let's come back to Thief. I don't really care if I play a male or female character especially when from a first person perspective, in many games you can select your gender anyway! But speaking of this, are there any TDM missions were you don't play the typical male "Garret-typ" character?

TDM no, but about Thief 2 an entire campaign.....T2X

FM:T2X Shadows of the Metal Age - Dark Engineering Guild | Thief Wiki | Fandom

Are you all really old guard taffers (so you of course remember T2X) or just old? :D

On May 25th, 2000, Looking Glass Studios closed down. Shortly thereafter, a group of 60-100 designers, artists, audio talents, writers and programmers from the gaming community, contributed their talents to realize a fresh new Thief experience. With their own story to tell, they joined to form TTLG's Dark Engineering Guild.

The designing and development took five hard years, and finally, in 2005 the result was an unofficial Thief II expansion pack titled Thief 2X: Shadows of the Metal Age. Based on the critically-acclaimed Thief series, T2X builds on the same technology and universe that made Thief 2 a classic.

Task is not so much to see what no one has yet seen but to think what nobody has yet thought about that which everybody see. - E.S.

I did immediately think of T2X, which is aces.

As for TDM I've been tempted to voice one but it seems arbitrary, and a lot of work just to get some different exertion sounds and whatnot. I'd want to make a story that complements it, but as we stand the default voice is sort of a blank insert with no lines anyway.

There's a wide variety of characters people have made who aren't straight-up thieves too, which is always a breath of fresh air.

Noble Affairs

I have never played T2X, in fact after playing TDM it's hard to go back to the original Thief graphics for me ;). And you are right about the player voices. I never thought about that, as e.g. in Bloodlines female and male player sounds do exist...

The aesthetic was respectable but a bit too "clean". How is it that modern graphics can never quite capture the dingy authentic look of the days when light was baked in?

It could be from the physically based rendered materials having less details on the texture itself and having more of the detail being born from shaders and model geometry but I see that kind of pastel look beyond 3d rendered things like in music videos and recent movies, and even in some Linux ui custom "rices" it all kind of reminds me of 60s era art, maybe a little saturated than the colors from then, and of course more detail oriented.

I think it's for good. In best case (game would be success and praised by players and critics) we would have new installment in franchise. In worst case (game would be failure and banned by the most) we would have new installment in franchise. Possibly new faces will appear in community.

As for "Thief is female" - I don't care. There are Thief 2X and TDM's own Goldwell's mission Noble Affairs so it's not a problem. Making 1998-2004's Garrett some kind of relic from ancient times is not that bad. I have no VR so I hope for non-VR rerelease and/or new non-VR/VR optional game in franchise.

I posted about it before, but I think the default tdm logo video looks outdated. For a (i.m.o.) better looking version, you can download the pk4 attached to this post and plonk it in your tdm root folder. Every mission that starts with the tdm logo then starts with the better looking one. Try for example mission COS1 Pearls and Swine.

I finished DOOM - The Dark Ages the other day. It is a decent shooter, but not as great as its predecessors, especially because of the soundtrack.
