@chakkmanIris and Displacement take (the admittedly sparse) consideration from the wiki on the subject of the background pretty closely. Honestly I think more so than most authors bother to. It is absolutely of "the universe" as much as that is possible when the entire point is for FM authors to offer their own interpretations of it.

Curio keeps making a reference

Spoiler

...to an "infernal book." I've offered him a couple, but he didn't want them. Should I be looking for one for him?

Also, I got

Spoiler

all 6 items he wanted and purchased from me. After the last one, he opened his door and invited me to the break room. On previous saves, I didn't have all the items. I went in from the back door and once (using the jackpaw) from the front and he disappeared into smoke both times, saying something like "looks like I'm closing early."

So when he invited me in, I was hesitant, but I went down the steps to the break room. Nothing happened there. Is there something I should do? I drank the tea and ate the croissant, but still nothing. Is something supposed to trigger? He made reference to not riling up "the boys" but there was no one in the room.

I wondered if that was the case and thought that maybe

he would open the door behind him and let them in, but I had already killed them all. That save is kind of far back, but it's winter and I do have time on my hands, along with a curiosity, so maybe...

And one thing I also wondered about,

the Curio told me not to blow the horn in that room (and nothing happened when I did), so I tried it in the break room but that isn't where it is supposed to be used, apparently. Anyone know where you're supposed to go to use it?

Thank you for this excellent mission.

And thank you for playing! Do you mind if I ask you to please put that image in a spoiler tag for now? That way other players can still get be surprised :)

In the upper floor of the museum, on a shelf/table with a sign 'stable aurite ...' sits a blocky thing which sparkles through the magic goggles, but cannot be frobbed. What's that about?

Also, people in this thread talk like there was some way to know what to do ... is there? I've been running around in circles for hours, no new objectives, nothing. I'm obviously missing something, but what? Where's the friggin manual? I'm so confused.

Every player is on their own journey. You're not missing anything, there is no manual, you just have to let your intuition be your guide!

As for the stable aurite issue, yeah, that's a bug, sorry!

I want to play this mission!!! 😬
But I'm gonna wait until the final release of 2.14 I guess.
I had the google AI read the thread for me and summarise all technical problems to be sure not to encounter any spoilers 😛, and that seemed to work, so I decided it would be better to wait a bit.
So guys ... hurry up plox!! 😍

These things you are asking about are not related to completing the mission so I need a bit more information as far as where/what task you are on where you are stuck.

Are you having trouble finding the horn or getting back to the starting room?

I've just wandered the map trying to Use it everywhere I could think of, but no luck - even as far away as

the death room

Maybe it needs to be set somewhere to activate?

No. I obviously am.

What's the weird potion for? How do I use the little pillar switch thing on the lowest elevator floor of the mansion / how do I open the door by the water?

I found no use for the weird potion, but there are lots of ways things can interact now so it might have a real use in the right place/combined with something else.

The other two are related; have you found any glowing puzzle pieces?

There are a few multi-step side-quests that don't activate any bonus objectives, which might be why you feel lost. They aren't necessary to complete the mission, just add flavor.

😂

I assumed there might be some books or something that'll give the player hints. I'm stuck at the lowest elevator level, below the mansion and have no idea how to use the little pillar switch thing.

OK, nevermind. When I first saw the picture

Spoiler

of the cat statues, I thought "na, they're joking, I'm not really supposed to carry who knows how many of these things through the city to that back alley ..." I still don't know how many there are, as I can't find that picture again, glad one was enough.

With the exception of Written in Stone, I don't think I will ever make an FM that takes place in Bridgeport.

Well now we have all those other places around Lampfirehills and Jewall lake to build.. hmm the distillery sounds like a nice place to build..

That's where the painting is. The most difficult kitten for me to find was that one closest to the starting position.

I also gave him

6 items: prosthetic, lodestone deposit, seed, falcon, chalice, headpiece

And he didn't invite me in? I had snuck in behind him previously at that point, but he didn't see me so didn't close early.

Additional bug with Curio:

I can get him to

Spoiler

close early and disappear into smoke

by simply starting at the top of the stairs outside the shop and running up to the counter as quickly as possible. I assume it's because the trespassing status hasn't fully gone away. I think making a lot of noise outside the shop makes it more consistent. Idk, here's a save file.

Not sure if you gathered from the rest of the thread but I was able to work around those by setting "Hold Frob/Interact" in Settings>Gameplay>General to "Disabled". I see now that playing with it disabled is recommended and has been brought up a few times, but not directly to you. Anyway, I don't know of a way to e.g. shoulder bodies or eat food with that setting, so I wouldn't call this a complete solution? I've just been disabling it when I encounter these things and setting it back to my preference afterwards.

I am halfway into the game, i'm grateful to my not-so-minus eyesight. Finally, I can decode the writing on this stone plaque. it took 45 - 50minute to decode this. i need to rest my eyes for a moment

I like it when a piece of writing is not so clear, written in smallish font and somewhat vague, just keep as it is. it's quite tiring when you don't have binocular tho

you have to walk back and forth , turn on your inventory lantern and douse the nearby lantern/torches to find the appropriate lightning, shadow and position ,  just to make the text clear. The good thing is paint 3d in current windows is so sophisticated . i used it to adjust the stone plaque screenshot  contrast, brightness, exposure and shadow.

A very interesting mission, but as it states it should not be played with my Unofficial Patch, which of course I do use ;), I have to ask if it is intentional that you can get the horn early on and finish the mission while the fun actually starts with exploring all the other areas?

“Fun” being rather subjective the answer is yes. The mission is designed to give the player a lot they potentially can do while strictly requiring little.

I think on 2.14 beta-03, you should be good. We had introduced a major frob handling refactor, new frob control styles and a new long frob door control in beta-02. The latter feature broke a few things, but those are now resolved.

Well, this is just sad...I was not able to play any Thief or TDM whatsoever, why? Too busy the past 2 months, this month I'm not as busy BUT it's also very heaty in my place.
I can't play Thief when it's not at least 15c or lower, the game demands to be played when it's cold for...Well, may sound stupid but I'll just say it, for that "immersion".
It's kinda like playing Quake during Summer, which unless it's the Summer Jam mod, I don't think it's as fun.

The preliminary working titles for the missions in my now-in-development Partners in Crime series:
      - Partners in Crime 1: A Mere Trinket
      - Partners in Crime 2: Beacon Burglary
      - Partners in Crime 3: In the Bleak Midwinter
      - Partners in Crime 4 (5 ?): Fishy Dealings
      - Partners in Crime 5 (4 ?): A Thief in the Night

No title stealing, please.  In return, I promise to finish these. I do stress the preliminary part. Beyond the broad strokes storyline, plot, objectives, briefings and the (currently built) layouts of these FMs, I haven't fully decided about every single detail yet, including the exact order of the missions (4 and 5 might switch places, with the story adjusted accordingly). I want the overall plot to be plotted out a bit in advance and not suffer too much from inserting prequels later. I also prefer to let my FM building fill out part of the details naturally.

Currently working on the second FM, and once I do enough work on the current prototype, I'll work on the first one, until I get that one released. Then complete the second one, get that one ready for release (hopefully) a few months later, and so on. I want most of the early missions to be fairly small and confined, and get a bit bigger as I grow more confident in my FM making skills.

Though there is an overarching storyline to this series, the missions themselves are mostly episodic in nature. They factor into the character development of the two main characters I'll have in the series, but it's the kind of continuity where the mission's own plot and story wouldn't depend on it.
