Which OS do you play TheDarkMod on?

This means having 5-10 build & test environments on Linux.
Right now we just use one on Linux and one on Windows, and it seems to work fine... more or less.

I just suffered from it again. This time, there was an error when installing apps via the Ubuntu App Center.

I must be really cursed that I have so many issues with Linux.

Funnily enough I have seen that happen at work where the Security team had our 'normal' accounts so locked down we could view apps in the store, but installing them was blocked and would throw that error message. So as the result of a deliberate, if questionable, enterprise security policy.

Thankfully we have separate sudo accounts so we could install via snap's CLI interface to get around it.

Wouldn't be an issue for a home setup where yours is the only, and presumably admin, account though. Not something I've seen on any of my own home installs. I'd almost like to watch you doing an install from start to finish at this point just to see at exactly what moment the Gremlins start messing with you.

Jokes aside, entries in syslog [/var/log/syslog] or using journalctl to get a nice timeline of things snap was doing: 

journalctl -u snapd

 would give more info on what was happening leading up to that wonderfully vague error message.

Yeah, I love it when there's errors with a message like "We don't know what it is, but, you just had an error".

As for actual research in what it is: I don't think I can be bothered. This old laptop is a mere playing field for me, and, after years of not using it, I wanted to try out Linux again, for fun. Kinda picked up where it ended for me: With bugs, errors, and non-functional hardware. And me hacking on the console, trying to fix stuff, and not even knowing why.

In Kubuntu I disabled snap entirely. Never needed it, and simply replaced Firefox with a mozilla PPA (and a blocker to prevent the snap version from being installed accidentally). Avoids multiple reported issues with the snap version of the browser. As for the store I never used it, always figured it was not as useful as synaptic. I'm guessing KDE's Discover is the base Ubuntu equivalent.

Guess my point is the distro (and especially desktop environment) you spend time experimenting with can radically change your perception of Linux a LOT. If Gnome was all I was exposed to, I'd never have switched. But others think otherwise so I'm not going to say they're wrong. That said, when you spend your life in Windows you can easily ignore the rough edges in that OS as well, often without even realising you're doing it. So long as people don't insult one another for their OS choices however.

Linux user here, though lazily on Ubuntu (in spite of being less and less of a fan of Canonical and systemd).

I wouldn't say "never", but I haven't had problems that weren't fixed with just a few minutes of searching and tinkering. It really is the tinkerer's OS. Some people want their car to start and drive them to work, and some people genuinely enjoy popping the hood and getting their hands dirty futzing with engine parts. It's definitely not for everyone.

Personally, I find Windows to be too "hand-holdy" these days. Keeps getting in the way when I want to mess with things, though I've only used up to Win 8 personally, and very briefly touch Windows 11 on work computers.

      Things have been so bad these days for me...
      Just a year ago, I've been feeling dizzy, I thought it was nothing, today's stress, that type of thing, went to sleep...Still dizzy! 9 more days dizzy, went to doctor (I would have gone on the first day if NOT for the long appointment time)
      Said it may be Neck Dizziness...I did exercises for 6 months, no changes.
      Went to a Physical Therapist, went to another, no changes.
      I've asked my doctor for a full check this time.
      I hated yesteryear so much due to personal reasons, this year might be the same.
      To be brutally honest, I'd rather have cancer or/and chronic pain than suffer dizziness any second longer, especially when nothing helps.
      Hard to enjoy Thief when you're dizzy so I was hoping this year, Winter will be best for me.
