tes Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Hello, I hope I'm in the right forum today, and I apologize if I'm not. I've been playing FM IRIS for the past three days without any technical issues and am about halfway through the game. Since yesterday, the game has started crashing in a specific situation. Always at the same spot. Once I managed to skip that part, the game continued running. After I shut down my computer yesterday and booted it up again today, when tdm starts up—after the loading bar finishes—the screen goes black and returns to the Windows desktop. No error message. If I completely restart the game, everything works perfectly. The mod is fantastic, but I’ve spent a lot of time on it now and don’t know if it will crash again after three days if I start playing it again. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? I couldn’t find any clues in the FAQ. The tdm version is 2.12/64 #10651 Thank you very much DESKTOP-USer.txt Quote

I'm not sure if people want to help you if you're using an older version. tes Posted March 30 Author Report Posted March 30 Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, TDM 2.13 is unstable on my system. That’s why I installed an older version that the original TDM downloader offered me. The strange thing is that the FM worked for days without any problems. I’ve now restarted the game from the beginning and am back at the point where the crashes started. So far, there haven’t been any more problems. Thank you very much. Quote

Wellingtoncrab Posted March 30 Report Posted March 30 @tesseems like it could be an issue with the with the mission, what were the repeatable circumstances before the crash? Quote -= IRIS =- ♦ <( | )> ♦ = SLL =

My issue with updates in TDM is that the green checkmarks next to the games on the list disappear along with the old version. It makes it a bit of a hassle for me to keep track of which FM games I’ve already played. I’ve already lost two lists; they no longer show up for me after updates. I’ve played about 40 FM games. And if it had to do with compatibility, why did IRIS run smoothly for several hours straight over three days? Thank you very much and have a nice evening. tes Posted March 30 Author Report Posted March 30 @Wellingtoncrab Hi. First of all, I want to express my admiration for this incredibly professional technical, aesthetic, and artistic achievement. The FM version comes very close to the originals in terms of atmosphere and, as I recall, surpasses them in its attention to detail. Recently, I spotted a completely unremarkable pair of shoes tied together hanging over a power line. What an idea! That really blew me away. Spoiler By the way, I found three locations in IRIS that were intended to be reached, but which, in my opinion, could only be accessed using unintended methods. “Secret of the Void” in Black Blair Park “Thieves Highway's End” in Southbridge, and the box in Machens' townhouse in Southbridge. For these three locations, I took the liberty of getting a rope arrow before I discovered them, which unfortunately cannot be legally acquired in your mission so far. There are 2 spots where I’m stuck: I can’t operate the elevator at Continental Imports, no matter which side I try. And I have no idea how to get into “3 Sisters Flat.” A rope arrow won’t help there either. But I don’t think either of those spots is that important for the final result. But this doesn’t really belong in this part of the forum. Sorry. The situation where the game crashed and wouldn't load at all after I shut down the computer happened in Brewbower, at the door to Lanternbug Press, which I was trying to open with the triangle. The gamescreen went completely out any warning or error message, and I ended up back on my desktop. I was able to restart the game—I had saved—and, after several attempts, got past the issue. After finishing the game, I shut down the computer and always unplug it completely. The next day, the game wouldn’t start anymore. After restarting the game, I’ve since returned to that spot and everything is running smoothly. I don’t think it’s because of your wonderful FM. Thank you very much for everything, and best regards. Sorry for the translation—I never learned English. 1 Quote
Wellingtoncrab Posted March 30 Report Posted March 30 @tes Hey thanks for playing! There are no rope arrows in the mission. All of the areas you mentioned are accessible by platforming/mantling, though that can be particularly difficult with some of the Spoiler secrets of the void Regarding the crashing that does sound pretty strange that it seemingly resolved itself. The crash would always occur when actively using of the triangle pick? Quote -= IRIS =- ♦ <( | )> ♦ = SLL =

I.. don't think that is supposed to happen on upgrade. In fact I just tested this on an upgrade and it doesn't get removed on upgrade. This was from 2.14 to 2.15 dev. The file missions.tdminfo that is in the fms folder has this info. So you could backup that file. Quote
tes Posted March 31 Author Report Posted March 31 (edited) @datiswousThank you for letting me know. I'll try again. Best regards, and have a nice evening. Edited March 31 by tes 1 Quote
tes Posted March 31 Author Report Posted March 31 (edited) @Wellingtoncrab Quote The crash would always occur when actively using of the triangle pick? Yes, but only with the triangle pick at that specific spot—not on other locks. Three times in a row. I might have clicked on the snake pick there, but I didn’t try to use it the second or third time. I definitely didn’t try a key. It was probably a writing or read error on the SSD. Best regards, and have a nice evening. Edited April 1 by tes Quote
