I have two issues:

  1. I installed TDM on my F: drive. However, the FMs are stored on my H: drive. Is there a way to have the executable (TheDarkModx64.exe) load those FMs from H: instead of F:?
  2. Why doesn't TDM's native file handler list the FMs in alphabetical order?

Typically FMs are always in the FMS folder, but if you really want to have a separate folder, you can create a per-Fm short cut -

" E:\Darkmod\TheDarkModx64.exe +set fs_currentfm <name of the fm> "

This still points to the same location.

I think there is a filter for this in the ui to set it to alphabetic order

Why not move them to your F drive?

You can try to make a junction (aka softlink for a directory on Windows) for fms directory.
Then F:\tdm\fms will transparently redirect all accesses to G:\my_fms, for example.

But in general, TDM completely has a principle "everything is inside a single TDM root directory", there is no other supported way.

I'm not sure what you mean by "native file handler list".

  1. Some in-game mission lists sort missions by release date, but in this case there is a small GUI element at the corner which you can click and change ordering to be "by name".
  2. Note that filesystem sees the codenames of the missions like e.g. "stlucia" which the game never displays. The game usually displays readable title, which is like "Mission 2: Tears of Saint Lucia".
  3. English language is full of articles, and there was some effort to automatically remove articles like "The" or "A" at the beginning of the title before sorting missions. Not that I like this practice...

@Ricebug Whats Stgatilov is referring to is 'symnlinks' - https://www.howtogeek.com/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/

But like I said before and he said above, your better off putting all the FMS inside the TDM folder.

How about adding the following config-line to your darkmod.cfg file,
so you can store the FM folder somewhere else:
set fs_ModSavePath "h:\darkmod/fms"
More info:
https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/20991-using-system-wide-file-locations/#findComment-462471

Or just move the whole TDM folder to the H-drive.
Because the TDM folder is "portable", it keep all the files inside it, as stgatilov posted.
(unles you change things in the darkmod.cfg file)

would ? perhaps " Angel-Loader " fix this Problem
I think it starts Tdm from " Path to game executables " and choose Fms from a : " FM archive paths "

P.S.: if that works (and if you use different TDM versions -> don't forget to indicate in the comments which TDM versions (and mods) you played the FM in ! otherwise the saves will probably not be available😉 ---
but you might only be able to address one tdm-exe, so you might also need multiple Angel loaders

So on a regular basis I try to start building something in Darkradiant but very quickly I loose interest and give up.
      I tend to
create a room, position an ai in it (or first ai, then room, probably better) put a light in it Put some stuff in it test the room in tdm Now I had this new idea:
Start of with a gigantic room. To skip the importance of sealing for the time being and to think broader than one room. Then just use ground without wall, just to visualise the structure of the level.  Then just use prefab walls and other elements (arches, etc.). Just building area's that aren't enclosed. I can always close them at a later point. Maybe this is all very logical from a mappers perspective, but tdm is the first game where I have done any kind of real mapping and I always stop at the start. It just takes too long to make something exciting.
I want to build something at some point, because over time I accumulated lots of ideas.

It would be nice to have a link to the forum thread of a mission in download section, rather than having to search for it manually, like on Thief Guild.

Anaglypta , floral and damask wallpaper look great in older homes
It’s rare to see anyone using “shader not found” wallpaper in their house

Terribly difficult juggling map designing with work, but I'm still alive and chipping away at something very special. I'm actually making a collaboration of sorts with a friend, I make the map itself and he acts as my "Chief Scope Creep Consultant" that checks in every so often to make sure this project isn't getting out of hand. It's a good system!
