So have anyone else been having this issue? If you dmap & map in the same session via an exec config "exec myfm.cfg" files in the console, TDM will eventually start having a regularly timed stutter that wont go away untill you close and reopen tdm.

No.  I do similar but from the console (dmap <mapname>; map <mapname>), and I don't get any stutter.

Confusingly or frustratingly, if I don't use the exec method and manually type DMAP and then MAP in the console,  it doesn't happen...

I wonder if its a map size thing then perhaps..?

Don't think so.  I just tried it on Lieutenant 2 which is:

and it was fine.  But I didn't use the 'exec method'.  How do you go about doing that? I'll try it and report back.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but I still  do feel like I start having issues at 8192+  though that could, of course, be due to my hardware, but this happens (or happened? will have to check) on both Windows (before) and Linux (now).

I think im having the same issue from time to time. I basically always stay in noclip mode and I dmap from DR (via the game connection)

edit: I don't use an exec config and im not sure what that is tbh. But I do have custom commands in my TDM shortcut such as - con_noPrint "0" and map mymap.map to jump into the current mission.

Its just a way of executing/running a file that has a bunch of commends/args that you would otherwise have to enter into the console.

yep, your executing a batch of commands in one go instead of one by one.

My workaround if you can call it then is to remove the noclip command from the batch file, Im prolly then gonna bind noclip to a key, what would be usefull is to make it a toggle.

@stgatilov any idea why noclip would be causing this regular stuttler once the game has been open for a while..?

Is it correct that dmap has nothing to do with it?

You enable noclip and just wait? For how long?
Do you need to actually fly around? Fly through the void?

When the issue happens, does it go away by quicksave + quickload?
Or by quicksave + end mission + quickload?

  • I thought running DMAP and MAP one after the other wasn't the cause, but I stand corrected. I just stood static in the map (with out doing noclip in the console) and sure enough after 2 mins, the bloody stutter started happening.
  • Did a test just now - 2 minutes
  • I did the above test where I am static inside the map, which will rules out the void.
  • ah I have never tried that, doing a quick-save and quick-load had no effect stutter still present.
  • Dosen't help, stutter still there, I have quite & restart.

I tried it briefly, and did not notice any performance issues.
Does the FPS drop? Or FPS stays okay but there are stutters?

Could you post your darkmod.cfg and condump?
So that I could try to reproduce as close as possible.

The plan is to record performance of the whole session with Tracy, so that I could compare what is different "before" and "after".

@stgatilov
So after some more trial and error, I might have found the actual cause...

I had "r_showprimatives 1" & "con_noprint 0" enabled in the exec file, removing these args removed the stutter... Ive been able to fly around the map for over 15mins with not stutter..

Did you still want me to post my cfg and do a condump..?

I think yes.
I tried to enabled r_showprimitives, it does not change anything.

Maybe you can record your session in Tracy?

Could you explain how exactly do you start the map?

I tried adding "map iris" in autoexec.cfg, it does not work for me.

I execute this config in the console -

Is there a script command to make a screenshot?
I just though it could be interesting to be able to create a screenshot at a certain point in time. Then use that screenshot possibly in a debrief.
I guess the second question is: Can you use a (in-game made) screenshot in a (debrief) gui?
