Sadly, though, this game uses OpenGL, and RTX Remix has a lot of trouble overhauling those games. However, we may be one step closer to a Path Tracing Mod as Justin Marshall was able to implement DX12 and DXR to the official level editor of Doom 3.

I haven't looked into the specifics on why he chose to add a DX12 renderer, but maybe just going with Vulkan would have made more sense here, since RTX Remix itself uses DXVK internally to render those older games with added path-tracing anyway.

Plus I remember seeing that NVIDIA was looking into how to get OpenGL games to play nicely with RTX Remix as well, but no idea how far they got there right now.

RTX Remix has worked with DOOM 3 for awhile API is basically a suggestion now, everyone’s been reverse engineering their games to work with Remix

Thoughts on OpenGL, Vulkan, and DirectX 12?

Yeah, pretty bad showcase... And if you look closely the image is like a badly compressed JPEG. No idea what's up with that. Some bad reconstruction used in the process or something?

quite imprssive on doomedit

As it happens, I’m currently experimenting with Doomedit, and there are plenty of tutorials out there (even though they all date back to the 2000s).

Hmm to bad MH is no longer active with the quake community, he was the one who ported idtech 1 to directx 9 so he might have some idea how hard it would be.

doing it in vulkan might actually be easier i reckon ?.

it would be slower thats for sure but how much ?.

the Doom3 game is pretty old so maybe not so much, one could get an idea of the overhead by trying out DoomRTX.

funny when it came out control was a pretty nasty experience on cards of that time and only the biggest beefiest nvidia card like the 2080 ti could run it decently. nowadays i can run it with all bells and whistles on at 4k and still get <> 75 fps on my rtx 3070.

so it might not run to bad 😉.

I have no idea about the technical side of RTX, but, the games I tried (Quake 2 and Portal RTX) performed like absolute garbage.

I guess it depends on how you solve things, but...

as i understand it performance degredation depends on how many hops a raycaster has to go through ?.

so a performance hit can atleast be developer controlled to some degree.

the question is will it preserve the feel of the game as well as provide more natural lighting / reflections without sacrificing to much ?.

Terribly difficult juggling map designing with work, but I'm still alive and chipping away at something very special. I'm actually making a collaboration of sorts with a friend, I make the map itself and he acts as my "Chief Scope Creep Consultant" that checks in every so often to make sure this project isn't getting out of hand. It's a good system!

The post editor for the dark themes should be working again. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Things have been so bad these days for me...
Just a year ago, I've been feeling dizzy, I thought it was nothing, today's stress, that type of thing, went to sleep...Still dizzy! 9 more days dizzy, went to doctor (I would have gone on the first day if NOT for the long appointment time)
Said it may be Neck Dizziness...I did exercises for 6 months, no changes.
Went to a Physical Therapist, went to another, no changes.
I've asked my doctor for a full check this time.
I hated yesteryear so much due to personal reasons, this year might be the same.
To be brutally honest, I'd rather have cancer or/and chronic pain than suffer dizziness any second longer, especially when nothing helps.
Hard to enjoy Thief when you're dizzy so I was hoping this year, Winter will be best for me.
