Or did Embracer acquire Atari as well?

Atari bought Nightdive Studios, I think.

What happened with the Thief IP, I don't know.

Considering the epicness of the soundtrack (and its impact on gameplay), I highly suspect that they will have it in full length in the remaster.

Fully agree.

On a different note: AFAIK, Nightdive did the System Shock 1 remake? If so, I wonder, why they were not allowed to do the same with TDP. Still confused how Atari got their hands on the Thief IP.

It's says 'pre-alpha' at the bottom of the video so I expect we may be in for a treat come release time.  One post said a brand new campaign is bundled in?  I wonder if Terri and Stephen were brought in to record lines for that?

Yeah, that would be great!

Eidos-Montreal still controls the IP, but the remaster was contracted out to NightDive. Atari and Embracer Group haven't traded the IP or merged or anything, they're just collaborating on this venture.

I frankly would have been p***ed off if they would have changed the level geometry in the Tomb Raider remasters. Especially considering the controls and movements were made with fixed units in mind.

They had a hard time implementing the modern controls because of that. There are some things which are not possible with the modern controls.

I'm a bit split regarding the Thief Gold remaster though. I don't really think it is as necessary as the Tomb Raider remasters, for example. TFix works fine. For Tomb Raider, the fact alone that you are not restricted to 30 FPS like in the original games was a huge advantage of the remasters, not to talk about the graphical improvements, widescreen support, and a lot of bug fixes. You pretty much have that with Thief Gold and TFix already.

In the Steam forums, they mentioned the advantage of having new people getting into Thief, but, I don't think it will be that many.

I was thinking this too but I have been having lots of issues on Linux with it. Will be nice to have something I can install and just hit play. Have they said anything about custom map support?

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

They talked about fan mission compatibility, but, whether that means that they will offer an editor, or that even Thief Gold FMs are supported, I don't know.

Many questions about the remaster.

I don't think a new editor would be needed.  From my understanding, the Kex engine is a wrapper of sorts that runs the original game code while stripping out the outdated graphics and audio systems for modern ones.  I'm curious to know if they were able to do all this the leaked Dark Engine source code.  No doubt would have made it easier.

They will definitely compile this remaster for 64bit CPUs and this will cut off compatibility with FMs that use custom OSM files which are basically 32bit DLL files and they can't be used with 64bit executable.

This also happened to Quake 2 Remaster, it doesn't support old mods with custom DLLs and not only because of 64 and 32 bit incompatibility but also because the API was changed.

I still would like to know what kind of extra content they're working on. But, it seems like they are very secretive about that still. :)

Appears to me that there might be something about the rumours of a new campaign.

It would be interesting if they collaborated with the NewDark creator(s) if they plan on updating any code. Probably not even necessary at this point, but who knows?

Everything sounds good so far. Reiterating that I want to see what they will do about NewDark.

I have a bad feeling about this remake to be honest, one of my concerns is that it's, of course, Nightdive Studios.

Nightdive Studios might have made great remakes, once or twice, but they ALWAYS abandon them in the end and that really bothers me.

For example, their port of Quake 1? It's terrible, it has this terrible frame latency problem that you can't fix at all, meanwhile all the other SourcePorts have much better ways to deal with it, like IronWail. They've never fixed this massive problem.

And also, there's the whole issue of how they had to "remake" Blood...TWICE! And their latest remake is still not as good as the other sourceports, and they still don't have the original source code, so yet again they remade Blood by reverse-engineering it.

Thief is one of those games where it doesn't need a remake, it only needs the source code so any capable fan can make improvements to it for the modern PCs, like adding multicore support, new optional shaders perhaps, improve the sound engine to modern capabilities and so on.

Instead, we get Nightdive, which I do not trust.

If they really manage to do it gracefully then I'm very curios about the technical side, but then there is no excuse for Quake 2 Remaster's fuck up, they did a lot of questionable things with that remaster.

Hey ICHI, could you give me examples of how they "fucked up" Quake 2? I found it to be a good remake, unlike their Quake 1, but I've only tried it a bit, with the first mission that is.

Well, rumours are rumours, but if the "new campaign" is basically, the Thief 2 Gold we never had, I'm into it...But I know for a fact Nightdive will make it an exclusive to their engine so you can't play it in good ol' Thief 2 proper.

I think they're both very good. And, I say that even though I'm not into shooters too much. But, especially Quake 2 is a fantastic game.

I know that some people complained about Quake 2 remaster, for whatever reason. There are the occasional post or two on the Steam forums as well, made by single people. Everyone else seems to thoroughly enjoy the game.

I wouldn't say that. I think it will also depend heavily on the implementation of fan mission support. If everyone has to start from scratch, then it might not be so popular for mappers (I mean, why switch then, if there are so many good looking community made assets for Thief 2 fan missions anyway).

Nerfed railgun and other weapon changes, enemies rebalanced. Barrels now don't explode instantly when you shoot them, there is a pointless delay. A lot of AI changes but the maps weren't designed for it. Lighting was redone entirely, often it significantly changes the atmosphere for the worse, because it's much brighter now. Some maps were altered just for the sake of it, the rest were left intact which only creates visual inconsistency.

OLD MODS ARE NOT SUPPORTED! More to that, you can't just recompile the old source code, you need to adapt it, but that is if you still have it somewhere. And who would care to port the old mods anyway?

On top of all of this, they awkwardly tried to merge Q1 and Q2 universes in the newly added campaign but it feels so out of place and just cringeworty.

Things have been so bad these days for me...
Just a year ago, I've been feeling dizzy, I thought it was nothing, today's stress, that type of thing, went to sleep...Still dizzy! 9 more days dizzy, went to doctor (I would have gone on the first day if NOT for the long appointment time)
Said it may be Neck Dizziness...I did exercises for 6 months, no changes.
Went to a Physical Therapist, went to another, no changes.
I've asked my doctor for a full check this time.
I hated yesteryear so much due to personal reasons, this year might be the same.
To be brutally honest, I'd rather have cancer or/and chronic pain than suffer dizziness any second longer, especially when nothing helps.
Hard to enjoy Thief when you're dizzy so I was hoping this year, Winter will be best for me.

      Hello mappers and taffers!

Are you still out there? It is so calm here these days and I am afraid this is no good sign.
Proof me wrong, tell your best friend (=me), that you are still here and that you will not go away!

Happy Labour Day, my taffing taffers & hard working mapping friends!
And remember the poor souls who, within the Inventors’ organization, labor under Jonus’s yoke to ensure the success of that very guild! Always remember the hard workers!

Is there a script command to make a screenshot?
I just though it could be interesting to be able to create a screenshot at a certain point in time. Then use that screenshot possibly in a debrief.
I guess the second question is: Can you use a (in-game made) screenshot in a (debrief) gui?
