hmm sounds like some windows related problem then. i tried running it through dxvk and so far no crashes but its random so lets see. the error im seing in ss2.log is d3ddevice focus lost. and when it happens it does actually flicker for a moment before crashing.

not sure about proton but the d3d12.dll from the project does work albeit with some really bad performance from my own tests. strangely you need the dxgi.dll from the dxvk project for it to run.

tried it out on horizon forbidden west. it can run but you need to lower settings quite a bit.

havent tried any other games yet though.

No, you're 100% correct.

But, that was already the case when the original Thiefs released. And, even more so today.

So, yes, I think that we are the audience indeed.

I can't seem to wrap my head around that we, the audience, want to pay for a game that we already know since the beginning , especially when we already have so many fan missions and tfix . What is the benefit of replaying what we already did multiple times with no real addition (I don't know how huge the new campaign will be) except smoothed out fluffy models and another HD texture pack.

Don't get me wrong, this is not a rage post nor defying each ones taste. Serious question though.

Unlike the System Shock II remaster, which added all the mods to it which makes it work better on modern computers, I also see the Thief remaster pretty sceptical, but, I won't judge it before it will actually be released.

It might actually rather be something which is targetted at people who don't want to go through the fuss, or can't go through the fuss of applying third party patches. A bit like the System Shock II remaster.

Yeah, easy installation might be the main advantage, but then again I don`t know how large this particular group of Thief fans actually could be as I have the impression that lots of Thief fans are very knowledgeable about patching the games themselves.

I somehow have the feeling that after the arrival of ND 1.29 lots of people will buy the remaster just to get the new campaign.

True.

Well, we'll see how popular it will be. The graphics are definitely better than the original, and also the most fan missions.

I can't get around those smoothed out guards tbh. I wouldn't say that graphics are definitely better than the original game plus newdark. At least from the trailers.

See, that's the issue with a Thief remaster. The players will observe everything with the microscope, and take offense with minor aesthetical changes. ;)

It will happen, a lot. That's why Nightdive and GOG really only can lose here.

hmm a bit like the talks about quakespasm and retro looks.

quakespasm is in part based on remakequake which sported some effects that might not have been considered true to the original but was close enough. the engine is optimized for modern systems and it would be quite easy to make modifications for a more modern look if that is what people wanted.

all in all if i feel like doing something to up visuals in a game that would be  up to me like it or not.

if you dont like it then just dont use it period. that is what modding is about, to express yourself :) and your take on it.

sadly remakequake newer really got finished. it was an interresting take on the game.

with newdark you can atleast enjoy the games with the original looks if you fancy. or you can polish them up with mods if that is what you feel like 😉.

i like options do you ? 😆.

Or like Nightdive's Quake II remaster. Same thing there, they did some minor things to it, which angered some people in the "community".

But, Thief is a much bigger issue, because there are real die hard fans for Thief. I understand it, to a degree. I already said it several times, the games, especially the first one, are real masterpieces, and, of course, with a remaster, people will analyze every small bit of it.

Hm I'm not sure if you're mistaken me here. To be more specific, I meant that I don't like the NPCs because they look like the old models but just more . . balloon-like.

Personally I would prefer a more bold change of the models, not trying to keep the "silhouette" .

But I agree on that they can only lose , staying as close as possible to the original with minor changes. The game will still look and feel old for newcomers but it won't feel like the same for the veterans anymore.

What has GOG to do with this? Maybe you mean Atari?

Yeah that's what I noticed too. The game looks bright, colorful and not scary..

Sorry, confused it with the restorated Thief version. I don't think GOG has anything to do with the remaster.

I am unsure if I find the game colourful, but I find the NPCs that were shown look comically, except for the zombies.

@chakkman

Would you mind renaming the thread to something more descriptive please ?

I just did.

The original title was me trying to be funny. Yes, doesn't work usually. ;)

It would be nice to have a link to the forum thread of a mission in download section, rather than having to search for it manually, like on Thief Guild.

Terribly difficult juggling map designing with work, but I'm still alive and chipping away at something very special. I'm actually making a collaboration of sorts with a friend, I make the map itself and he acts as my "Chief Scope Creep Consultant" that checks in every so often to make sure this project isn't getting out of hand. It's a good system!

The post editor for the dark themes should be working again. Apologies for the inconvenience.
