Before you make any comments though, watch this video:

Personally, this is the most i have ever been excited about a console. The 'nunchuka combo' looks like it may be superior to even the keyboard mouse combo for FPS games. And as I've mentioned elsewhere, for swordfighting and sports games, this shit is golden.

A Thief's Path trailer is now on Youtube!

definitely looks interesting, but I think it is waay too imprecise for FPS games (maybe not for doom, but I don't want to play any tactical shooter with this).

If I remember correctly the only thing that's new is, that the controller is wireless - there used to be controllers (in form of guns for console fps-games) that work like that before.

You know, I love innovation. I think this looks like a good idea.

But I've also no idea how precise or not it will be.

And niether do you.

So please, please, please can you not spout stuff like "I think it is waay too imprecise for FPS games" when you have no idea, and know that you have no idea, whether it will be suitable or not.

However - if you see the whole video of the announcement you will know that FPS games are precisely PRECISELY what Saturo Iwata was saying the controller will be good for.

And there is ALREADY a retro-fitted Metroid Prime 2 that has been playtested. It's discussed on the net somewhere (Google) it. Apparently... awesome.

Actually, I realise that you haven't read about properly BlackThief. Go read the tests, then tell me it's just a lightgun.

I want your brain... to make his heart... beat faster.

I never said it is just a simple lightgun, I'm just a little less enthusiastic when a company like nintendo says it's got something totally innovative. I'm no expert on consoles, but I remember the playstation eyetoy stuff and what people said about it before release. It was also supposed to be a total revolution especially for sports games, but all games that support eyetoy I've seen so far are simple, ridiculous games for kids.

Regarding tests - I looked for tests (probably not long enough), but I don't think there are any objective tests out there yet. There's just the usual "OMG this is sooo awesome"-stuff, that is spread by nintendo and its fanboys, around.

Back to FPS games - the reason I think it's not precise enough, is simply that you have to hold the whole thing in your hands. Your hands aren't very precise as long as you can't apply them anywhere (hope that's the right term, I'm no native speaker),

or why do you think snipers (in RL) always apply their rifles onto something ?

Maybe it's just because I've used standards game controllers all my life, but this doesn't look incredibly appealing to me. For me, I'm sure it will be cool and be very fun or useful for certain games, or for a short while, but if I have to swing my arm around and knock a vase over and punch a friend every time I just want to swing a baseball bat, then that's going a little far for me. It's like those virtual fighting games at the arcade... it just doesn't feel right to be swinging and kicking at air and watching the video screen react. I think it'll help the immersion for some games, but kill it for others.

Also, I think arms get tired after being held out for a while. If you have to keep aiming your gun for 3+ hours during a FPS game, won't your arms get tired?

Note: These are IMO thoughts, and it's a given that I'll need to try it before giving a complete review -- so don't take offense.

PS: I envision the two pieces easily getting unplugged from each other by extra-physical players. If that kid swinging the sword 3/4 of the way through the video had slightly longer arms, he'd be unplugging that thing.

I'm just going to pick you up on this because it IS Nintendo.

They have been responsible for every console controller innovation you care to think of. Think of it. It was their idea first, oh yes it was.

There are plenty of objective tests. Some of them are critical of certain aspects of the controller even.

And I wish everyone would remember that a. there is going to be a standard type controller that you can dock the gyro controller with and b. GameCube controllers will work with the Revolution.

Doesn't do much for me either. <shrug> Wasn't there some kind of glove years ago that was supposed to do the same basic thing?

Even though I'm too into it yet, I think there's a good chance that kids will fall in love with this controller and as they grow up with it this will become their game-controller preference. I don't doubt the vision behind this controller; it's great. It could very well revolutionize game-controlling, but I feel if it does, it will start with the young. As they grow older, the controller will follow their every step of the way so that some day the controller will have a rather large presence. For older gamers, it'll be harder for us to adopt.

and b. GameCube controllers will work with the Revolution.

I like that. It helps let the market decide if they want to adopt the new game controller rather than force it upon every Nintendo Revolution owner.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
