I guess it bears mentioning--yet again--that this is not T2. These are TDM pagans. TDM pagans are groups of primitive, tribal societies that are similar to gauls, basques--and yes--celts.

If you can't handle a character with checkered pants (a very common pattern not limited to celts, btw), feel free not to use that model. Maybe the model won't even have checkered pants. It's just concept art, after all.

Sheesh, if people have this strong a reaction to deviating from T2's pagans, I can't wait to see what people say when they see the Inventor's Guild.

T2 was perfect. Everyone who workled at LGS were demigods, bestowing their virtue upon us mere mortals. Every decision they made was impeccable and made for asthetic reasons alone. Any deviation whatsoever from Thief can only be a step in the wrong direction.

Civillisation will not attain perfection until the last stone, from the last church, falls on the last priest.

The sarcasm detector in my office just exploded.

The problem is not that they're not similar to the T2 ones, but that you're on the one hand saying "TDM Pagans are not like TMA Pagans" yet the only reason they're like they are is because they're called the same thing as TMA (and TDP, sorry) Pagans!

I don't want something identical to LGS pagans - they had flaws, and it would make this mod a clone. But the reason for making them celtic (or celtish, given that there are other concepts) seems to be an odd, tenuous one.

And yes, the checked trousers DO cause problems for me :)

That's making an assumption.

Now you're just talking about things you know nothing about. How do you know that is the only reason? What insight do you have into a creative process that goes on behind closed doors (for good reason)?

OK, maybe that's not the only reason, but it certainly appears that way. What connections to celts and Thief pagans have? they're both called pagans. Anything else? *shrug*

I'm sure I'll be wooed when I see a model or animation, anyway.

@FishFace: Why do these guys have to be connected in any way with Thief pagans? All of our faction names are just placeholders right now anyway, so don't get too worked up about them. We could just as easily call these guys the "tribes" or the "barbarians" or who knows what. The Builders might call them 'pagans' or 'infidels' because that's what they call anyone who doesn't follow their god. Historically, there were frontier cities in the Roman empire where Romans and "barbarians" intermingled. Maybe our setting will be similar to that, who knows? The campaign is a long way away.

"Tribal" or "barbarians”

I like those. They sound good and ruthless. Maybe out of love for Medievalradley they could be called the Anglos. Hehehe

On the other hand Barbarian sounds too “Conan the _”. Beside, doesn’t “BARBARIAN” have a meaning like one who doesn’t speak Latin or Greek. I think it is Latin… any one know? Barbarian sounds good at first but then those of with kids will have “Dave the barbarian” theme song in our heads all day.

I love this thread.

Hey I would look into an ancient language like Greek and find a word or a few words, Something that sounds good and is close in meaning to what you feel these people are all about “ (I am not saying I think they should be Greek but maybe a good place to find a cool name)

So here s a small list hope its inspiring

Agathosioi = the good ones [men] or[people]

Adelphioi = the brothers [feels like brotherhood]

Kalosioi= the beautiful [ones]

Ponhrou = the evil one

Ponhrioi = the evil or the evil men

O kakos anhr = the bad men

Oi sophrones= the wise men

Oi duskolosioi = the bad tempered men sounds better as just Duskolosioi

Or just use a made up name for them .

Anyone speak klingon… they make up nice words.

It is true that in the Thief world there is a nature (pagans) - technology (Hammerites) balance. It's also a "mystic/spiritual earth magic" - "organised guilt-laden religion" split.

And of course in retrospect the story arc of all 3 games follows a very predictable "nature inbalance, technology imbalance, balancing force imbalance" progression (with the initial 2 imbalances being totally interchangable and dependant upon the developer's whims).

To me the exciting thing about TDM is that although it contains much that is familiar there is also much that is different.

Sure the pagans are different, that's cool, but they are still pagans. But apart from the differences there are going to be progressions - look at the Prelate and the Revenant; the final product(s) will be arguably far superior to any inspirations taken from Thief. That doesn't diminish Thief's accomplishments though. And in some cases (pagans in T3) the TDM versions are going to be FAR superior. They aren't even done yet but I know that there are people on the team (at the vey least oDDity and I) who will not let them be anywhere near as lame as the T3 ones.

And the extras like the Inventors Guild are going to be the icing on the cake. Don't moan people, wait and see.

I want your brain... to make his heart... beat faster.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
