A CameraBot concept... maybe above a door or something. Inspired by T2, obviously... but wasn't looking at anything when I drew it:

I didn't spend any time on designing a mount for it, so I cropped off what I had.

More will be added as they are completed. I think kfmccall was going to come up with some Camera concepts, too? Feel free to post here.

I think it's very good as a work of art, but may be a little similar to T2 for comfort.

Do our cameras have to be anthropomorphic? I know it makes sense to do that for bots, but maybe our cameras could look more like bulky, primitive cameras (maybe with a diverging lens so that the back end is wider than the front, since they wouldn't have the technology to make a tiny integrated pixel array, they might need to blow up the image with a lens and project it onto a larger pixel array).

I think many things we've done so far are pretty close to T2 for comfort ;) Regardless, my plan is to create other camera types as well, including non-anthropomorphic. I'll take your suggestion there into account there. Thanks!

EDIT: Also, I never felt the T2 camera-faces were doing anything more than sensing movement. (I don't feel they were taking video and broadcasting a high-resolution movie on some back-office TV screen somewhere.) Therefore, sensing motion wouldn't require a very advanced optical lens/configuration and a small lens works. I still like your idea, though, and will try to crank out something.

That's a nice bit of artwork there. It reminds me of a He-Man villan or something - don't know if that's a good thing.

Man, I wanted to show you guys some screenshots of the cameras from the intro sequence of Abe's Oddysee. They were kind of ominous in their own special way, they way they rotated on the spot in short spurts and always adjusting their lens at the same time.

Fraps would'nt work for some reason, so I attatched a quick drawing of one... try to imagine more steam punk detail on it... The end has some shutters that can open and close (kind of like a stage light I guess).

Ahh, thank you, kind sir. Actually, the red eye would be for the alert status changes, reminiscent of T2. I think there were 'Green, yellow, red' alert LEDs somewhere on them in T2. Similarly, the eye would cycle through these colors. I know oDDity is way against having any sort of visible indicator notifying the player that he's been seen, but I don't mind it and think it actually adds to gameplay. For if you don't know when you've been spotted or don't know when you're being seen, I just don't think it would be as much fun for me. Even if we don't use this anthropomorphic version, I hope we use some sort of alert status indicators for some of the cameras/sensors. Seeing an alarm's LED status turn red (or some similar notifier) conjurs up a nice, "Oh F**k!" response in me.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
