Gramophone Model

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I like the idea of bringing the magnificent Thief-like stealth gameplay to Doom 3, and furthermore, the plans of releasing the Dark Mod as a toolset for FM authors. As there is still plenty of work to finish until the relase, I would like to contribute a bit.

I created a gramophone model in the hope that it could be useful for you.

I used Blender to create the model (the UV map needs still a few tweaks, though).

Nice model :) . As you said the skin needs some work, IMO you need make the disk black and take out that gold texture you put on the metal hmm... thing(if you like it let it stay) with a clean golden texture, ex you could use a yellow/orange color as difuse and use a gloss texture to give it the shiny look and a normalmap to give it some noise or bumps.

Look to this rings for inspiration: Golden Rings

Cool, I guess I'll have to give up on my Viktrola skin then...

Magnesius - aren't you one of the UC guys? If so, you should have posted such a model in the UC threads and improved the perception of the project before it was jettisoned.

@The1wayman: I used a picture of a gramophone (with perspective, well) for the texture. I will probably use several different textures instead! The current texture has also too many shiny parts.

Unforeseen Consequences? A really strange project. I watched the foaming and roaming posts in the TTLG boards with a bit of astonishment. Most likely, I will create a TDM campaign with a collegue of mine, but we will not do the very same mistake the UC guys made.

To whom can I send the finished model?

My mistake, I saw this thread on Doom3World and assumed that you were one or other of those zombie guys since the avatar is the same.

I'd still like to see ours in game.

The first skin is almost done actually, I am planning to do a "mansion" skin and a "mechanist" skin at the same time.

If c777 is doing the same one then that's 3 skins - even better.

Never do that if the pic is in perspective, because it will never be good on the model as you already saw, can i see the uvmap of your model? And what is the app that you are using?( never mind i saw that you used blender)

Here is one of the models made by me.

P:S- It was made in Wings3D v32a, you guys can also have it if you want, it was made for a MP2 mod that never get out. Magnesius is not my intention to "highjake" your post, so sorry if it seams that way.

We don't have mechanists, though I'm curious about what the difference would be between that and a mansion skin. :)

The mansion is wood panelling like an old WWII TV set, the "mechanist" (or whatever you want to call it) will be more metallic and industrial, like the viktrolas at Soulforge.

Yes, it's rather a placeholder. I will watch out for better fitting textures.

Like I said, a placeholder:

Your model will surely fit right in the project, nicely done. We could place my gramophone onto it! Please continue posting in this thread. :)

By the way, maybe we will need a floor lamp which can be placed beside your cabinet.

That's a strange way of doing a model skin - are you taking a stock photo of the object and then mapping faces directly onto it?

OrbWeaver, it is only a placeholder. I used the stock photo to model the gramophone; but I did not yet come across any decent texture parts for the loud speaker (along with its ornaments). Once I found some, I will post the updated model here.

I have completed my gramophone model. Here are two screenshots taken directly from the render mode of Doom 3's editor:

The model is in the ASE format; the improved texture has now a normal map. However, I still need an email adress of a Dark Mod developer who considers my model useful! icon_wink.gif

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
