This model took me about..... 2 years to complete! :) Finally it's on SVN. (chest_old_body and chest_old_lid). There's also a skin without coins.

Coins are a tileable texture, so can be used with any other container as well.

Looks great, but I wonder how that would work as loot? Would the player frob the gold texture?

And then be greeted by approximately one hour of the finest "loot" chims and clinks the engine can afford, accompanied by a little counter overflow in the lower right corner :D

That's a tough one. I for one can see it just being a prop, the player looking at it and saying"not worth the trouble"

 

You see it in movies all the time, the one guy (never the hero) who starts grabbin fistfuls of loot and dropping it all over is always the first to die :)

 

But, I had a floor of a treasure room like this in Left 4 Dead. I had some loot'props' in there too, it bugged the hell out of everyone that played becuase they couldn't get every last piece.

To be honest, I didn't even think about it. I made it mostly as a static prop. Grabbing all that stuff, no matter how technically well done, would be just ridiculous. You can put some goblets or whatever else on top of it, to let player grab anything from that chest.

It could perhaps work as a single, specialty loot object..."find the treasure chest and you win" kind of thing.

I think we can do fine with swapping the coin skin when the player chest is being frobbed (so that some cloth appears after frobbing). It requires a custom frob_action_script, but we can get away with it.

 

The model is awesome by the way. The chest alone (without the coins) is worth gold.

      Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

      I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.
