General Games Discussion

As there doesn't seem to be a forum for general games discussion and also so I won't start many threads on different games I thought I'd do a new thread here.

The new shots of XBox360 SC4 look rather good. They're still using Unreal 2 or 2.5 engine on it. They've got the Unreal 3 engine but will use it for further SC games, possibly with Fisher in them.

Check the shots here:

Yep looks very nice. However till I see it running i'm not holding my breath. Usually all these promo shots are touched up. The final game in action looks toned down due to fps problems. As a matter of fact I see no reason to upgrade my cpu to play it. Doing so would cost more than an Xbox 360.

What is required for SC 4 is:

CPU: P4 3.0Ghz or AMD equivalent

Ram: 1GB

Videocard: supporting shaders 3.0 (GeForce 6 and 7 series, ATI X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900 series)

System Information

------------------

Time of this report: 7/2/2006, 03:22:13

Machine name: UNSTOPPABLE

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)

Language: English (Regional Setting: English)

System Manufacturer: NVIDIA

System Model: AWRDACPI

BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG

Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2100+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.7GHz

Memory: 1024MB RAM

Page File: 307MB used, 1619MB available

Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

DX Setup Parameters: Not found

DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

The minimum for SC4 I read is like a Penitum 4 3.0ghz. Plus probably direct x 9 and above compliant video card. Basically insane.

Currently I can play games like Far Cry, Doom 3, just fine. Not at full graphics but that dosen't bother me. My point is I see no reason to upgrade anymore. No game is coming out that makes me go "I want this now."

As a matter of fact the only PC games I am considering perchasing are Prey and Bill Rope/Flag Ship Studios Hellgate:London. Just because it's him and he made Diablo 1 and 2 with his team. Plus those engines are way more customizable to run on a wide range of machines. Splintercell is either you lag gameplay, lag somewhere in between, or run it good. That is because of the freaking shadows which are intense and can't be turned off, only set to low detail.

Game looks great but you know same old same old. =P Just listen to what Oddity says. He knows like I do that the PC games industry is stale. Very few innovations.

I also recently purchased a gamecube. For 139$ I got 5 great games and 2 controllers, memory card, and the system itself. What could I get for 139$? ATI Radeon 9800 pro card and hitman contracts. So I chose the gamecube, greater value.

p.s.

If there is ONE game i'm definately wanting to try out is Gear of War for the Xbox 360. Epic Games, nuff said.

Where did you read the requirements?! Pixel Shaders v3.0 REQUIRED? So they are dropped all ATI cards except for the absolute last generation? Why do they even have to do that? The game works on the Xbox 360 which as far as I know only supports up to Pixel Shaders v2.0. Or am I wrong? Either way, they're closing off a pretty big portion of the market I think

This is probably the first game to require the absolute latest Pixel Shaders version. The only other similar requirements I've seen is for Pixel Shaders v1.4 (or 1.3, not sure), which means every card since the Ge Force 4 era can play them -_-

Man I was really looking forward to this game, I didn't like the previous of the series but all the gameplay videos of this one look absolutely fantastic :(

It's all about the single player experience. So far all of their games have been well done. However I only wish there was more replay options. Once I finished each Splintercell, I felt very little reason to play them again. I

If there were unlockables and hidden things it would be more interesting. So to answer your question it will be good but I want some replay features. Maybe I should write to them.

Edit: I just found this at the main page http://www.splintercell.com

You will be able to affect the outcome of your game. So you can play as a bad guy as much as you want. That's pretty cool. So it looks to be worth checking out.

Just also noticed it's for all platforms. Hopefully the Gamecube version will be worth checking out.

BTW I happen to know what causes the plotline. Something has happend to Sam which I won't reveal since I don't wanna ruin it for everyone. It's gonna be an epic game this time around :).

If you must know however here is a preview which reveals a plotline in the game. You are warned!

Anyone played the Call of Cthulhu around here yet?

Too late to save us but try to understand

The seas were empty -- there was hunger in the land

We let the madmen write the golden rules

We were just Children of the Moon

We're lost in the middle of a hopeless world

Children, Children of the Moon watch the world go by

Children, Children of the Moon are hiding from the Sun and the Sky

I know you were asking for folk here but try http://www.metacritic.com/search/process?s...p;x=15&y=10

metacritic is the best place to look for reviews from mags, websites etc. I prefer it to gamerankings.

Check also there Ishtvan.

      Fm idea (braindump)
"Experience the life of a mission builder"
Esentially there are finnished elements placed somewhere in storage in the game and you have to place them in the correct places, build some walls here and there, add guard routes, give them their correct speech lines, etc. Decorate the places.. all in-game. lots of fun.. 😉
If you do it right in the end you can play the mission.
(would be even cooler if a thief-ai could play the mission, making it some kind of tower-defence game)

This first started as an idea for an aquarium builder mission where-in you have to fill an empty aquarium with sand, waterplants, castles water and swimming fish. But above idea is more fun.

Dear ChatGPT, What are The Builders in the Dark Mod?

The Builders is a popular game mode in the video game community called "Dark Mod," which is a fan-made tribute to the classic "Thief" series of stealth games. In this game mode, players assume the role of builders who construct structures in a dark and ominous environment while trying to avoid detection by patrolling guards.
The Builders game mode is unique in that it offers players the opportunity to create and design their own levels using the in-game tools and resources provided. Players can experiment with different building materials, construct intricate traps and puzzles, and create their own unique gameplay experiences.
While The Builders game mode is not an official part of the Dark Mod, it has become one of the most popular and well-loved aspects of the game, thanks to its emphasis on creativity, strategy, and stealth.
