Yeah, she's going to be great once we get down to the real work. :) Very versatile actress. I worked with her back in 1996 on three different productions. I should have another audition up tonight.

Update:

Just uploaded the vocal tests of an actor named Ernest Murphy. Hope you enjoy. :)

Yeah, both are great so far. I can't wait to hear more. It took me a few listenings to realize Jen didn't mean to laugh in that one clip :) Ernest's servant voice was actually pretty good. But I think it sounded more like a butler. I didn't think it was that bad; the only thing I noticed with was a pacing problem on that one. The transition from the statement to the question was too fast maybe.

As a side note: I saw the northern lights last night! :D Only the 2nd time I've seen them. The other time was a few years ago. You who live north (Norway, Canada, etc.) are very fortunate to have frequent northern lights.

I've been very pleased with the early tests so far. :) I just want to assure everyone that the acting quality is not reflected in these tests. They're just quick snipits for vocal quality so I can judge what their voices will be best suited for. I think we'll get a few charactes out of both Ernest and Jen. They're both very fun to work with so it will be a very enjoyable experience.

I had one guy email me when he saw the poster I put up, but the part about "acting experience" didn't seem to register. ;) I gave him an appointment anyway, just in case he was a natural born talent. Sadly, he was not. Nothing against him personally, but it would taken a lot of work to coach him through each role to get a quality performance. No energy for that. The great thing about the people on board so far is that all I have to do is work out the character with them...and they'll improvise all day for me. It's a pure delight. :)

On the subject of the northern lights. I agree, they are phenominmal.

Josh seems fine to me. Particularly 2 and 3 are good; 5 and 6 a little less so.

But he'd make a good civilian and house guard. A good conversation voice.

Anybody can recommend an ogg player for Windows? I would have to boot to linux and I don't want that right now.

He's a little less experienced, but I'm sure I'll be able to coach him through without much of a problem. :) They're just quick samples, so with some time spent on the actual recording he should come out great.

Ernest seems good for the guard voice. The servant didn't sound convincing to me.

Jen sounds good mostly. I think the best voice was the "whos there". It actually sounds frightend to me. IMO we already could use this. :)

Joshua was not so convincing to me. As guard voice he sounded a little bit to contrieved(?). I could imagine him better for some servant voice.

Since these seem to be mostly tests they are quite good material. :)

Yeah, they were just quick little vocal tests. 15 minutes per actor. When I get them in the hot seat...ha ha...then we'll get some good material. ;) Not that I'm a horrid task master or anything, but I'll definately guide them to get that which we need...quality! ;)

Good. :)

But really! I think that "Who's there" was so good that I already would use it. I listened to it several times and she always has something in her voice that really sounded frightend. You are not a harsh master! HA! ;) I wonder what you told her, or did to her, that she did this so well.

I think they're all excellent, very professional THe recording quiality is first class as well. It's great that you can get these people to give their time for free (but then I suppose a lot of actors spend a lot of time between jobs)

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
