At the least, you're surely going to do adequate research into the way people spoke in medieval England and only use words which they would have used?

I'd like to see the adequate research that demonstrates that the modern-sounding swearwords and phrases in question ("What the fuck?" etc) were actually widely-used by the medieval population in the same way they are now, rather than just appearing in a modified form in the occasional piece of Shakespeare.

I've already made this point.

I said that the words existed back then but not in their present idiomatic forms. Hence they cannot be used in these modern ways.

It is necessary to research how to use them properly.

Self Quote:

"However as I said use words like "Fuck" with proper old fashioned idiomatic ways, or contruct old sentances. Using "Fuck off you wanker!" is definately modern.

Saying "Did'y'hear 'bout the lady in Wutheran's castle? Bin fuckin' the guards in the stables!" or somesuch would be better.

I know that example is flawed, but hey I don't even have an English A level to my name!

Or find some real old swear words that have fallen out of use.

"God's blood" or "God's spit" maybe?"

Exactly, but many words and phrases used today were not used then, or in different contexts, some words had completely different meanings, and they used words we no longer use at all.

That's my point, are you going to do reseacrh into all of that, or just leave out a few swear words, which may or may not have been used back then, andcall it authentic medieval language.

THat's leaving aside the fact that Thief 2 was basically set in a Victorian world, where they definitely used the same swearwords in the same context as we do.

Thief 2 Was NOT entirely set in a Victorian world. It's called steampunk. And there was art deco which may have come later or earlier. Either way IT IS A MADE UP WORLD. True to our world isn't exactly the same as true to T1 or T2's world which is a clash of cultures and eras.

Yeah, yeah so they make an essentially Victorian/Edwardian setting and stick a few steambots in, and have people still running around with swords.

It's an aimless and illogical heap of ideas at best, so how anyone can argue that a certain swearword has no place on the pile always leaves me amused.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
