Damn straight... I don't know what crowd they were catering for in T3...

Personally I expect to hear primarily british accents. If there's going to be an american accent, it better be a pretty cool voice. One good thing I will say about the T3 acting is there was one thug/guard (can't remember) with a deep menacing american accent. The one that says while searching "I 'aint got nuthn better to do than find you an' smack you aroun'..."

Yeah, and Mae West. It was like they used every stereotyped accent in the book. I'm surprised there wasn't a 'gangsta'.

"YO G! What up dog? I got that Bafford shiznit you was askin for, word!"

We're derailing heavily, but I can't resist. :D

What I don't understand is, unless I'm wrong(?), a lot of the voice acting for TDS was the same people as T1 + T2. What happened? Hard to believe lack of good directing or good scripts suddenly makes talented voice actors into fumbling ... well, you know. The very same great voices in T1 + T2 were terrible in T3. And the pagans... let's not even discuss the pagans.

I think it came down to less time spent recording the voice sets....or a different voice director...someone who didn't really grasp the Thief vibe. I haven't checked the credits for T3 vs. T1 and 2, but it's probably a bit of all that.

Then there was Stone Market Bertha or whatever she was :P
Good lord I hated her. She sounded like an actor imitating somebody without acting experience. So damned hammy.

I think TDS was aimed towards 13-year-olds, since they suddenly made Garrett a celebrity (after the previous two games where he worked damned hard not to be found out) and emphasized that he had the powerful 1337 sk1llz to kill people. They even gave him a groupie. (that one shopkeeper) Catering to 13-year-olds just so well explains all the design decisions of the game.

That guy sounded like he came straight out of a 1950s mob movie. :(
Yeah... but I have to admit, I felt intimidated and wondered if he was harder than a regular guard, and then I was seriously dissapointed when he was just as easy as the rest of them. Just another clone with a different voice.

If the voice was that out of place, it would have to have a really good effect on me. Probably not even worth the risk since not nearly everyone will be affected the same way. Best to stick to european accents.

Yes there is a lady they're mimicking, famous actor from a long time ago (someone here will know her name), they were even mimicking her on Bugs Bunny cartoons.

It was like they used every stereotyped accent in the book.

Yes and that just screams "unoriginality" and "I'm not putting any effort into this, it's a kids game".

I have to agree with you.

But I still enjoyed it in spite of those things. It's just a shame, it could have been so much better.

*cough* Keeper assassins *cough*

They scared the crap out of me until I realised that you could take them out with a bit of easy sneaking + blackjack. Too easy. From then on they were just another human AI.

(We are really awesome at this total-thread-derailment thing. I guess we have a lot of practice. ;) )

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

Ahhhh how could I forget... with all that talk of how hard they'd be, like having telepathy so that they all hone in on you when you alert one... they were JUST another clone with different graphics and sound!!

"I sense... I'm under attack!!"

Has anyone seen "Team America"? <_<

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
