Laptop Video Cards - I Know Nvidia, But Ati?

I'm looking into getting a newer laptop with a good video card for gaming, and I roughly know the GeForce linup (6800 good, 7800 is great, right?), but I have no idea about the ATI lineup.

Any advice? A good website that lists the relative powers of the cards? I know it's harder to nail down for laptops, but still some guide would be appreciated!

I looked at that, looks pretty comprehensive, though I found it hard to compare, but I learned some.

After searching more, I also found this page:

It seems pretty straightforward and clear, good for reference.

I'm searching on eBay for a new laptop, and currently I'm aiming at this one:

It has an ATI X1600 which is supposed to be a pretty good one, better than Geforce Go7600, or maybe about the same.

we'll see...

I'm an nVidia fanboy, and after owning an ATi for a year, I'm even MORE of an nVidia fanboy. It's simply a matter of quality (nVidia - better compatibility and reliability) over quantity (ATi - more power for less money)

I'm still using the ATi A9550GE because it's all I can afford, and it does give good performance in most games for what I paid for it. But still, I get crashes in Oblivion from time to time, videos glitch up sometimes and refuse to play till I close it and open it again, and crap driver support - a bug that leaves a text file on your desktop everytime you re-boot?? I've owned ATI in the past (I had a 9700 for a while) without problems, but I generally like nVidia as well, but they're harder to find in laptops.

The laptop I bought has the ATI X1600, and I usually keep a laptop for probably around a year or more, so we'll see how it goes.

I had a laptop once... my obsessive 12 hour per day pc gamming habits on weakends caused my already badly made charger cable to melt from the inside 3 times. (yes 3 we spent 60 dollars to replace it the first time, and just made our own fix for the second and third) i finaly traded my laptop to my dad for a good desktop and we all lived hapily ever after. if you plan on using it in moderation then go ahead but if you are going to use it obsesivly then dont buy a laptop.

Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.
