Getting Setup

Right! Oops. I'll copy it here:

The following items are what we'd ask and expect of active beta mappers:

1. Give feedback on what doesn't work (bugs, missing functionality),

2. Indicate what needs to be added (assets, features),

3. Provide maps that can be used for testing, inspiration, enjoyment,

4. Share your knowledge of tricks and techniques learned, through tutorials and the wiki,

5. And of course, feel free to contribute whatever assets or personal modifications you wish.

There is also a Beta Mapper Requests thread, where you are all invited to participate and assist with specific requests for maps, testing scenarios, etc.

Great :) I'm glad that everyone is being so welcoming ^_^ . I have one question though, do the beta mappers map anything they want or are there specific levels that the mod team would like to have mapped. For instance, is there any idea or concepts floating around or would you guys want maps which resemble those of previous thief games? I haven't been able to get going yet because I'm still downloading everything and getting set up, but I'm really looking forward to it. :D I hope by asking all these questions in the public forum I'm not divulging to much info to the public which you guys may want to have kept quiet  .

Bascially you can map whatever you want. You should be prepared to make your own textures though, especially if they are missing in the mod at the moment. What we expect from mappers is that they make use of our assets, create new assets that they may need and contribute them to the main mod, and also (IMPORTANT) to complain about stuff that is missing. The point of having beta mappers is so that we know what is still missing. So if you try to do something and it doesn't work because it's not there, then just tell us. You may not get it immediately and it depends on the request, but we try to provide a broad selection of tools to help creating maps. So if it is something very specific for your particular project, we may not provide it, but if it is something that we may have missed, then we certainly will add it to our list.

Since you like forgotten city/lava type maps, why not make one of those? We even have mostly-working fire elementals. :)

I'd love to see a map like that with D3-style lava. :)

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
