Visual Studio 2003 Compiler Uses Network?

I installed a desktop firewall only a few days ago and today I found my first surprise. When I compiled the mod, suddenly I got a request from the firewall telling me that the compiler tries to send a network packet. Now I really wonder why it would do that??? And I'm not talking about the IDE trying to look for updates or such, but the real command line compiler whos only task should be to convert a C/C++ sourcecode into object files. There is absolutely no reason why it would require netwok access.

That could definitely be it. I know that VC++ 2005 Express has a news thing on its "Welcome" page.

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

Oh, yeah... I forgot that you said it wasn't the IDE.

That is really weird. Might be worth running a virus scan on that file, just in case.

You cannot receive PMs. Could you please be so kind and check your mailbox if it is full (or maybe you switched off the function)?

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
