Length of soundfiles

I have a problem with some soundfiles. :) The files in question are in darkmod\sound\sfx\tools\lockpick\pin_NN.ogg.

I need to know how long these samples are. My application only shows me a resolution up to seconds and these files all are shorter than that. I guess that you soundguys have other tools, which might give more precise timings. So can you give me the lengths of all these soundfiles in milliseconds? All the pin_NN.ogg files and pin_succeeded.

Do you need the length to wait for their completion? IIRC, the StartSound() and StartSoundShader() methods do take an int* where the length of the shader is stored after the call.

Yes, I noticed that after posting it. The bigger issue is, that our timer is not reliable enough, because it depends on the rendering time. I try to improve this, I have an idea which might work but I have to test this tonight. Curerntly it already works a little bit. It would be good enough for a first draft implementation of the lockpciking, but the timer should definitely be more reliable than now.

BTW: Which app did you use that showed you these numbers?

I'm really not a sound effects guy, but I use http://audacity.sf.net for all my (meager) sound editing needs. If you open a sound file and then Select All, it shows the length of the selection in the status bar at the bottom of the window. Not that convenient, but probably more convenient than waiting for someone else to find out for you. :)

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
