Some texture I've made.

Hello,

I'm new here so first I'd like to say that I admire the work you've done so far. I can't wait to play the first mission created with TDM.

I've made this simple wooden texture using photo of my wainscot. I know it's not much and you probably have acres of beautiful wood textures of any kind and

you don't need any more wall textures. Anywa

y I hope you like it.

Thanks. Yes, I've made high res 1024x1024 version. I used it to make the screenshot.

Well it's a very nice texture imo, so if you want you can send us the hi res versions of it and it can be added to the mod.

if it's only 1024x1024 and if it's also a jpg then imageshack or something may be better, but otherwise I'm not sure who actually looks through the recruiting@darkmod.com email, but perhaps a one-time exception should'nt be too bad.

Because files are in tga and weight 3 mb each I sent them on mail. But I guess 1024 x 1024 textures will be compressed?

Yes, we are compressing all textures to DDS as it is much smaller and is better quality then pg and only marginally worse then tga

Thanks for your contribution btw :)

Great! If you plan to make a bunch of textures, why not apply for contributor status?

Maybe when I have something more to show. I plan to take my camera some day and shoot some photos of historic buildings I coul

d use. But for now I prefer not to make

OK, I have something new. I've made some photos of walls, bricks mostly.

This texture was made with 4 pictures of a hedge:

I've got also pictures of doors and windows. I think some of it could be used:

I really like the cobbles. The hedge could come in handy too. I like the door also, would be good to have one without the ring to apply to door models (just one door not 2)

Windows are needed for sure. I'd also like to see some more 'trim' stone, like a big solid block texture, but only one brick tall (maybe 64x512) and no seperations for the length of it. These are really handy to texture things like pillars when you want like 12 bricks tall, but want it to look like one block on top of another and have no seams. And no alignment in editor trying to get rid of seams.

I packed 3 textures in tga format with normal maps. They can be found here (14 mb): http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/177538/Ar...xtures-rar.html

I tried to compress files to dds format but I couldn't open them in doom editor. What did I do wrong? Anyway, I don't know what level of compression you use.

Judith's dds textures are 1 mb each, mine were 1,33 mb (it's default in DDS Converter).

This surely could be done :)

I know I could make one but spending so much time on other stuff, would be nice to have someone pumping out specific textures. :D I actually did notice one in DR after I posted this, but would be nice to have 3-4.

But I explained it wrong. It should probably be more lik 8 blocks high, but only one wide. Tiling so you never see the left/right edges of block, that would be terrain. That way you'd get more variation vertically and use the tex space better.

I like the bricks.

Thanks! You seem to be the only one :)

It should probably be more like 8 blocks high, but only one wide.

I made something like this:

http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.p...columns.1c5.jpg

First it was 64 x 512 but it wasn't good. So I made 128 x 512 and I still think it should be wider. Also I don't now how exactly this brick should look. The one I made is rather grey and boring.

What is this status anyway? Because I think I can apply now :)

There's also an updated cobbles diffuse map i posted earlier. Now it looks better from a greater distance.

Those texture's aren't perfect, I realize that. Especially roof tiles which are based on bump map may not look good in strong, direct

light. Wood looks better in smaller scal

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
