T2 Style Wood-textures

Ok I'll present my T2 style wood-textures in this thread, cauze the presentation-thread is getting a bit too cramped.

I started today creating a wooden-wall-paneling in blender. Acutally I wanted to render it, but it didn't work for some reason (the object was always pitch black in the render-window, eventhough a light was directly in front of it). So I took the unrendered one and made the normalmap in PS. I think the result isn't bad afterall:

this was inspired by these two beautiful T2-textures:

Not bad, BT. I notice the one side is a little darker than the other, giving that tiling effect. Is that intentional?

It's visible there too, just not as obviously. The left side of the panel is definitely darker than the right side.

Something I hadn't thought of before now, but should we be putting hinges onto these textures? The handle I assume will be a model.

yeah - I already thought about the same - but if we add them to the texture, then we need hinges on a "door-frame-texture" as well, so that it fits.

@gimg yeah I also noticed that the wood doesn't turn out very good ingame. however I'm not sure what's the reason. IMHO it looks much better in PS....

Yeah, you can mirror the texture, so that's no problem. I think we can get away with not having them on the doorframe, as that's quite small. It's not a crucial thing at all...I'm pretty sure the doors in T1/2 didn't have them. Some in T3 did, but I don't know about all. Just a thought.

Hey, what are you doing with the lighting in this scene? Those are perfect shadows.

edit: er, the other scene above with the desk. The trim looks great!

The shadows of the desk aren't completely black. You can see the trim even in the shadow. It looks to me like you have some kind of ambient light as well. Thats the one thing that bugs me about the D3 renderer is the harsh shadows. But that picture looks perfect.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
