Huh, what's with this font?

I'm having a problem with the carleton font in the purchase screen. It seems like, for some reason, the "P" goes out of bounds and gets cut off.

In the cost box below (I made it white so you can see the size), the price is right-justified. But for some reason the P is cut off. I could justify it on the left, but then the prices wouldn't line up properly. This doesn't happen with the other fonts I tried, just carleton. I have no idea how the size of individual letters is calculated, so I'm kind of stuck here. Any ideas of how to solve this problem, other than just using a different font?

Non-symmetric fonts (asymmetric?) sometimes define the width of the capitals somewhat smaller than the graphic representation, so that it won't look like there's a gap space between capitals and the rest. Look at the "Wa" from "Waterarrow".

The letter width is defined within the font itself, so you would need a font editor to change that, and words which start with a capital P will probably look like "P orter" or so.

Have you tried putting one or two blanks behind the P? Or if they're autotrimmed, try Alt+255, or use a full-stop.

Thanks, Schatten.

Joe, are you reading this thread? I'm not 100% sure where the "GP" is set in the mainmenu gui. Is it possible to add a space after it?

Right now this is in the C++ code, which is bad. I'll come up with a fix to make it available in the GUI or someplace. And I'll add a space after it.

Thanks, Shatten, for figuring this out. I believe this is called "kerning". Higher-end composition systems don't reduce the font width, they actually carry a separate table of values for character pairs. This is the the amount to "back up" when laying out a pair of characters, after laying out the first character. Trivia for the day.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
