Texture Tweaks

Some of our textures have major tiling issues.

Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it's not. It can be a problem in diffuse or normal. I suppose specular but that would be less noticable.

-------------

I've really noticed it mainly on tex I have used on models.

So far I have fixed issues with about half of the vases and the gold plate local.

No doubt. The problem is that certian textures should tile.

Like I said the vases were a major annoyance to me. If they don't tile you see seams where the edges come together. That leaves ugly lines up and down the sides of each vase model. That's why I stated fixing them.

I also fixed te urn tex in which one of the four designs (look like carved hanging cloth) was almost twice as wide as the other 3 on the tex, again giving a really ugly spot on model. The author wuld have to either rotate it to face a wall or deal with a really bad looking tex.

I think it's best not to make authors have to selectiely place objects based on obvious flaws.

I just thought this thread would be a good plce to keep track of textures like this that are very obvious and need fixed.

Thanks Baddcog! I never noticed that...

No prob Pink,

I did go to take a screen in game of it, but it looks like no model uses it? I looked in vases and graveyard. It's a cool tex so I lan on making an urn to use it on unless I missed what it was used for. I think it would make a cool stone carved urn anyway.

I noticed the prob with the antique vase (tan texwith bumps) was that it had 'smooth' pixel edges, that was probably from being painted at a larger size and shrunk. Photoshop tends to mess up edges during resizing. I think it's when you resize a psd with layers, bt not an image like a tga. Been awhile since I've messed with that stuff though.

Actually that urn1_d.tga file is not longer used anywhere since I made new skins for graveyard models. I should have deleted it from SVN. Now that urn model (currently it's part of a grave only) uses urn1_f and urn1_local (and common gravestone texture) and they have the same tiling issue since it all comes from that screwed up normal map. Sorry for that confusion. If you don't feel like doing it again for those other two textures that's fine but I will be able to correct it only somewhere around the middle of September .

Ah, I didn't even notice Urn_f. I will fix it so it matches the others, will only take a few minutes.

I would like to keep urn1_d.tga also though. I have an idea for a 'flower pot' that this tex would be perfect for, great for graveyard and we have nothing like it, please don't delete.

While looking at the graves I noticed a couple things.

1-now that I've looked at em again with all the textures I have to say these are VERY sweet models.

2-But it looks like the tex on the icon atop of gravestone _5 is messed up. Must have wrong shader on that part. (grave simple_5 also)

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
