I'm surprised there isn't already a thread for this one. I really loved getting to walk through the city for a bit. Really, this is what T:DS should have been. I haven't played T:DS in over a year but I don't remember it having the same dark, shadowy quality. Awesome job on the Dark Mod, and awesome job keeping the community up to date.

The lighting is perfect, and, though I hate to use a clichéd term, quite realistic. You guys have really outdone yourselves :) The breadth of the village and its buildings trumps even the original LGS Thief’s.

What kind of mapping are you using for the sky? Is it a skybox? How is the moon effect done? Is there any luminescence from the moon and does it act as a light source to a limited degree?

Loose BOWELS are the first sign of THE CHOLERA MORBUS!

The moon can act as a lightsource of course. Wether this is a good idea, depends on the map. It can put a heavey strain on the load. :)

Fidcal created several really wonderfull WIKI pages, where he wrote down step by step tutorials for absolute beginner, which should address such questions, for mappers. He did this while creating his own testmap as an example, and I have already played this map, which is pretty complete. :)

it's an old version of the map displayed in the videos, i've changed the lighting and street levels in the last version but it gives an idea of a city environment.

@Vadrosaul

The map uses a 3d skybox and you can place low poly objects inside to give the illusion of a bigger city/forest or whatever you like to create.

I'm saving the new video for later. :)

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
