hoi, another new face here.

did see the darkmod video yesterday. ( via ttlg) I'm impressed B)

did inspire me to give doom/radiant another go. ( and I was so pleased to find fidcall's tut a la Komag )

been fiddling with it for a few hours, did work out fine ( allthough I kept pushing my "dromed"buttons all the time  )

( I think you can guess what's coming next..) I would love to work with the darkmod.

( I don't like the doom textures ( to be honest: I didn't like doom at all :P )) being a thief-adict from head to toes...

I have some experience in 3d editting.

I've been a dromedeer for the last few years. I think I might say I know my way in dromed.

did "publish" "the Librarian" last year ( and allmost done with the brushwork for the sequel)

I think ( and hope) that the darkmod will be the way for the "thief-universe" to go.

I sure would love to give it a go...

Hi Nightshifter, send me a PM with some samples of your work (screen shots), and we can start up an application thread for you.

HI,

I also gave Dromed a shot, som years ago. I must say I like that app, but I never got farther then toying with it. I did some small maps with DarkRadiant now, and I must say it's really easy and fun. :) Not that I'm a good mapper compared to others here, but at least I got something working. :)

That looks like The Librarian to me. I did start playing it a few months back but as usual cannot find enough time to play FMs. Somewhere I have a gamesave to continue! :) Yes it was enjoyable and promising. Hope I'm not mixing it up with another one but I seem to recall running along rather biggish rooms and corridors - space - whereas I like to keep it tight and claustrophobic but nothing wrong with that - matter of choice.

There is a thread in the ttlg FMs forum on this and I recall it was well received. :)

Yes, I see I still have it on my Darkloader. I think it was a first mission for this author so very good.

If you like tight claustrophobic maps, you should try Rockbourg. I didn't like it, because of that. I rather like more open spaces. Not to big, but normal size, with a nice warm atmosphere. I really love that feeling in some of the mansions, where only the candlelight is the lightsource. It always reminds me of a nice dark winternight, with only a single lamp lighting my sleeping room, and a warm bed with a good book, and snowstorm outside. :)

I guess this is one reason, why I love to play Thief. Despite it's age, it still manages to capture a certain mood in it's renderengine, which totally escapes TDS renderings.

yes fidcal, you were right. the first 2 pics are from the librarian. ( was indeed my first mission)

the last two are from the sequel (the spear). I'm still working on that. nearly completed the brushwork,

still have to do all the detailing, texturing, obj , lightning, scripting etc, etc... :P

did learn a lot from the librarian: It was too big, too complex. I had some real troubles building pathfinding database ( I ended up with 2 area's where I couldn"t have AI ), couldn't optimise anymore. had some major poly-issuesetc, etc.

Excellent. :) Welcome aboard, Nightshifter!

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
