Hi!

At first, please excuse my bad english (no native speaker)...

I've read at Thief: the Circle.com , that you're looking for people, willing to do some AI coding. Im interested in it and I like to offer my help.

So, to give you some sort of "profile" on myself:

I'am a student of computer science (5. semester) with focus on programming and computer graphics.

What I've done / coded so far:

2D/3D Tile Engines

a engine for space-combat games (~ x-wing or homeworld)

Arcade Shooters

DX 9 Shader effects

I also got some experience with neuronal networks, I also coded a simple one.

By now I'm working with 2 other programmers on a advertisment game for a local company which will be finished in 2weeks.

If I could be any help, I'll be glad to aid you...

We could always use more programming help :)

New Horizon should set you up as an applicant soon :)

Hey there, Intruder!

The usual procedure is to give you a small Task to get you into the game and to judge your abilities. As you're interested in AI coding, I'm happy to pick something suitable for you from my ToDo-List. I'm currently in the process of writing some documentation and tutorials regarding our AI, but I'm by far not done yet.

Also, in case you were unaware, I thought I mentioned that The Dark Mod is eventually going open-source (most probably under the GPL), so I hope that's not a problem for you.

Just let me know when you're ready, and I'm happy to give you some startup instructions. :)

I'm sorry for disappointing you, but things turned out in a different way then I expected in the last few days.

Our university finally "approved" a game-project which was planed some months ago. But due to the fact that it took so long, everyone (including me) thought the project to be "dead".

So, if I would start working on the Dark Mod right now, I would be working on 3 different game projects at time, appart from studying. That's too much for me right now. I don't like saying this, but I'm afraid I won't be avaible for the Dark Mod befor march or april.

I'm really sorry that I caused you this administration work but I simply cannot work on this project right now.

In case you still need people in spring 2008 , than I (hopefully) will find time for the Dark Mod...

deeply sorry,

intruder

Ah... guess we missed out. Too bad.

I imagine we'll still be able to find a use for people in early 2008, so I look forward to seeing you back here then.

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

Thanks!

This project is about creating a racing-simulation for the "Bergfest" in summer 2008 (Bergfest = traditional festival week in Ilmenau). On this event it is sort of "tradition" that students build own soapboxes and have a race against each other. And that's what we're trying to build...

Each year there's also a movie done by students which is presented in this week and there were plans for games for the last two years or so, but they failed or never even started. So that's why we're trying to accomplish it this time with a hole new crew and ideas :)

so far...

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
