Playing thief in Winter

I'm just wondering if anyone else does this.

I play Thief deadly shadows only during winter because in game the weather seems to be very cold. So playing the game while it's cold seems to make me feel like I'm more part of the game, like I am actually experiencing the cold in the game.

I hope this has made sense to anyone. :)

I can understand. I don't play Thief exclusively in winter, but many times I played FM's and the original Dark Project in the winter, and to enhance the mood I would make the room as dark as possible, open the windows wide and turn down the furnace. Winters in Vancouver could get down to 5 degrees

5 degrees? You call that cold? BAH!!! Come out to the East coast and we'll show you cold. Tonight is a warm night for us at -5...-9 with the wind. If you want a real good freezing, you can get it here on PEI. Some really nice cold days will come our way in the winter.... try -20 and a wind chill of -30 degrees. Lucky if a car will start in those temperatures. 5 degrees...you're lucky. LOL

man, that's just not cool...

No, it's not cool - it's freezing!

(Nice setup. ;) )

Today's -20 with the windchill , so I'm not leaving the house (except to hop into my car to go get coffee).

This reminds me of the good times I had in Ottawa - oh, snow and cold, I loved it.

Unfortunately here all we get is rain, fog and wet cold (aka: plus 3 degrees, wind and light rain), fog, smog and did I mention fog?

When did you used to live there?

It's a Canadian thing. The coffee is filtered through the radiator, so it's always hot. It comes out through a dispenser beneath the radio.

ROFLBTC (sorry) That's why the Canadians all leave their cars running.

I guess global warming is really getting to Antarctica. Those conditions are pretty ripe for that part of the world ;)

Here in the UK there's no discernible difference between winter and summer. It's cloudy and rainy the whole time. About once every year we'll get 'Travel Chaos' as snow stops traffic for a few hours, but that's about the only indication that winter is here.

Dunno from whom this is:

In England there is a special word which means the last sunshine

of the summer. That word is "spring".

Hey you all, you know that degrees in Europe are not the degrees in America (Celcius and Fahrenheit)? Makes your discussion pretty fun to read, thoug. :P
What?! You're saying Celsius and Fahrenheit aren't synonymous? Stop spouting nonsensical gibberish, lest you encourage people to believe such fantastic quackery as "Kelvin is measured from absolute zero".

Playng Thief in winter is very special. Much different than in summer. It feels much more cozy. :)

Well, here in Germany it's raining in summer most of the time, and that is no good way to play Thief. In autumn the weather slowly changes to rain and wind, so you get more into the mood. In winter it rains all the time, which is the perfect weather for playing Thief, until spring comes around again, when it starts to rain a lot here, and you don't get so much in the mood of Thief anymore. You need the proper winter raining to do this.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
