Novel published!

Nice job. I suppose you'll get royalties too so that'll turn out to be a pretty good prize (5000 pounds aint shabby).

Might make it easier to get another published too eh? Wow, compared to Terry Prachett too.

I just sent the book in to see what the judges thought and it was a real surprise when I won. There's a tradition of writing quite serious realism in Wales so it's nice to get some comedic fantasy out there!

Here's a pic of me looking really smug. You get a medal and a hardback copy of the book too.

Hey guys, I won an award for best unpublished novel at a Welsh festival. The award is £5000 plus publishing the novel.

You can watch a video of the ceremony and an interview here. I'm the second clip along at the moment, the guy sitting down on a chair. It's in Welsh but it's fun to watch. :)

Wow, Welsh is fun! At first I though "heh, which idiot installed the 'Garble Words to Strings of Random Letters kshaCgIel Extension" on my Firefox, but then I realized, it is just Welsh :D

And congrats, looking forward to your novel!

The only way I would ever get a prize for my writings would be in the "The Best Unwritten Novel" contest...

That is EXTREMELY good news Macsen! Wow!!! I'm quite impressed and I hope this is the start of a very nice and successful writing career! That's serious money that you could live on well if the book takes off enough.

Don't care what I say, but I suggest getting serious and writing a second book right now (if you haven't already) and have it ready to publish within a year of the first. If the first sells even just decently, the publisher is quite likely to "bet on a sure thing" with you again at that future time.

Well the publisher told me that having won the award I'm in a good position to get a grant to take time off to write another novel, another £5000 or so. But I don't really want to take time off work, I enjoy being a journalist and creative writing is just a hobby really.

This is fun news. Congratulations, Macsen.

A Prachett comparison must feel nice.

It's sort of cool that you'd be rewarded for a fantasy novel. I don't really know the facts on it, but I'd imagine that books like this would appeal to people that would otherwise feel overwhelmed by so much serious realism everywhere in Welsh lit, and would get turned off reading Welsh books, at least recreationally to relax, although they would want to if more books were there.

See if you can get your own cult following of trendy Welsh fantasy fanatics... ^_^

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Cool beans!

I'm getting the same message as Vadrosaul. Firefox 2.0.0.16 on Linux (Ubuntu 7.04), if it matters.

If you live in the UK you can watch an English documentary on the Eisteddfod here. I'm in it about two minutes in.

Emphasis mine. That DRM crap gets so on my nerves!

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
