Non-Idle Turn Animation

D3 has this whole system to play a turning animation when the AI is yawing around wildly, so that they're not just spinning without moving their legs. I noticed that none of our AI seem to have this (when they turn without walking, they all spin like a top without moving their legs). I thought Dom had put some turn animation on the citywatch, so is the def file just not set up, or do we need this animation also?

I didn't see it on the master list, just the "idle turns," where they turn and then turn back, presumably. These "non-idle" turns seem to be just picking up their feet so that they look slightly ridiculous when spinning around. Doom3 AI should work as an example of how to set them up. In fact, maybe the zombie has this already set up?

Anyway, just wanted to check if we planned to do these.

That's why I added them to the animation list. I was thinking specifically of AI that are standing on patrol, however, not AI that were walking. I guess they would require different ones, though to be honest it never bothered me much if they spun while walking. And then would we need turn animations for every kind of walking? What about searching, etc?

I'm pretty sure I did see some standing turn animations somewhere, but they aren't included in any .def file that I noticed.

The "spinning" looks ridiculous and I thought it was WIP and just not included. Presumable, the "turn" animation could play only on the leg channel?

Thanks Ish - yeah this is something I don't think anyone was aware of yet. The current "turn 90" is just for a standing guard on patrol, not what you want.

Tell me what the anim(s) has to be and I'll put it on the list. However I think it's fairly optional compared to other essential animations, and should be put at the bottom of the to do list.

Woah you came out of nowhere. Welcome back!

This thread is about turning while moving - we already have a turn-on-the-spot one.

Ish also brought it up here, which I had already added to my todo list in my signature

I've added this thread to it as well now, just in case.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
