Problems with importing textures

Hey guys, guess who again  .

Indeed I am having more trouble.

Just tonight I got some professional textures that look AMAZING into dark radiant. I followed all the steps for getting the texture and it shows up just fine. But...when I compile the map I get a flash of red saying can't find the texture and in game that section is completely black!

It looks so pretty in the editor! Is there some step I missed? All 3 files, displacment, spec, and the ed image are in textures folder along with materials folder pointing correctly to them(It shows in the editor with lighting just fine.) so why can't the editor find it?

Here is the cool image of the texture in action in radiant.

Please post how you fixed it in case the information is of benefit for future beginning mappers. :)

I had to repaste everything, make sure the brackets where correct etc in the material shaders folder. Obviously some typo was messing it up.

By the way these texture I got bump up the immersion factor 5x. So much that now I have to get more of them because the texture's make our original ones look horrible(no offense to those who work on our textures). Seems I'm just gonna wind up buying the whole shebang.

Be careful with the usage terms of those textures. Some licences don't allow you to redistribute the texture files, even if they're just one part of a larger work that you author.

Just out of curiosity, how high is the resolution on those textures?

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

Many of the textures are generally uneven numbers on the textures but it is scaled down, most hit the 1024 range though. It's not really just the high rez, its the fact that they are studio textures already made for easy normal mapping that look photo realistic.

I read my license, it says the textures are bound to me and I'm free to use them in any multimedia projects I please.

But I suppose that means others couldn't take them from those projects and use them in their own.

That would disallow Darkmod using them, even if they bought a license, since the whole point is others who didn't would still be using them in their own projects ... not that there was a debate on that.

But OTOH, it's nice that professional-level textures out there can get into individual projects to those that buy them and really raise the bar on quality. That's the plus side of the coin. They're really not that expensive and do make a good impression.

Is there a site like this for professional-grade models with a similar sort of license, I wonder.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Yes, but what if on your maps you put me as co author something? That would make it on some shaky ground but it would then be part of my projects. Or how about putting me on the Dark Mod team so I could claim that Dark Mod is my project etc...

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
