I just discovered this game and I've watched a couple videos of it and read a little bit about it and I think it looks amazing. I'm not going to get my hopes up but it looks like it could be something really interesting so I thought I'd share it:

Reminds me of The Suffering.

That thermodynamics feature looks kind of cool.

Yeah I wouldn't get my hopes up too high either; its made by Russians. They'll probably make a better effort of it than EA did with Dead space though.

Dead Space was very predictable. Also, when you'd see a monster charging at you, it play that loud chord. Most doors I opened a badguy was behind it.

I didn't like Dead Space, it wasn't ambient and it wasn't scary in the slightest. However I have really enjoyed Stalker and Clear Skies so there is more hope for this game than general English fps I've seen getting released.

  • 3 months later...

I forgot about this game but I randomly did a search on ISOhunt and I found a torrent of an English version. Apparently according to EB games it ships April 20th to North America, so I don't know what the deal is. But I downloaded it and I'm giving it a try, if I like it I will buy a copy to support the company. So far I've managed to get about 40 mins of gameplay in the last 2 days do to school, but I'm really liking what I see. It's extremely story driven, unique, and the graphics are incredible! I'd argue these graphics rival Crysis in some sections, I can't believe how under the scope this game is. Anyways this weekend I'll get more time to try it probably so I'll let everyone know my verdict.

Well it starts off fairly interesting but then sadly it abandons what should be it's main attracting point and becomes a sub par fps.

Graphics: The filters and water effects look great but the repetetive rooms and poor performance get annoying, the animations are really smooth and interesting.

7/10

Story: A generally interesting story, I haven't played through the hole game, but I wish there was far more emphasis on the actual story rather than the shooting, it's really interesting finding out how some of the guys died by taking over their bodies, but others seem like their needlessly implemented:

8/10

Innovation: I really wish there was more emphasis on taking over of the dead bodies and puzzle solving, their the two really interesting parts of the game.

6/10

Gameplay: It ends up getting annoying shooting the stupid ai who don't know how to do anything other than move left and right. Random crashes on level change aren't great either.

5/10

Overall it's a game I'd recommend to someone board of playing the same fps for the last decade to play in their spare time if they have no other better games to play. On the plus the animations are great and some parts will get your interest based on how the ai interacts with the environments (scripted but still cool). There's 3 or 4 memorable moments, but it ends up being repetitive and tedious.

Ah, well, that's a shame I guess. I do like how games from behind the Iron Curtain actually try to do something new or unique with the gameplay for an fps; Stalker was one game I thought had a really unique setting and ideas, it sounded great on paper.

Unfortunately, and it seems the same way with Cryostasis as well, all those good ideas and innovations just don't seem to be executed in a way that could make them enjoyable for the player or relevant to the game, if they even get put in at all. :(

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
